- burlmartExplorerwell FWIW I got a cell phone - my first. It is Martha's old LG VX8360.
I will probably need to post a question or 3 on the battery - where is good source of fresh batts for old phones (Verizon store said no longer carried).
Bigger news is I went w/ Page Plus Cellular (a Verizon system). I wanted the $80 for 2000 min for a year, but they say you gotta go to a dealer for this plan. Anybody know where to lool -none of their listed local dealers do more than sell the minutes cards for 4 monthsit?
Went with the $50 for 1000 min for 4 months instead, and they set everything up right on the phone.
Just a matter of courage and a call to drop our landline number of 22 years and not giving ATT $30/mo for local only calls. - 1492ModeratorI have the 2014 MagicJack Plus, just haven't had time to set it up. It supposedly doesn't require connecting to a PC for setup. Future capabilities are said to include an option to use WiFi instead of having to connect to a router via network cable. I'm assuming that the additional USB ports(2) are for either a USB 4G mobile dongle, or a WiFi adapter. The necessary drivers may be accessed through the new SD card port?

I saw their vid where you plug it to phone and router.
Do you still need a PC to set up a new MJ (account)?
How does billing work?
Can I rollover my landline # AFTER I try out MJ for a while?
Would really like to hear how your MJ experience goes either here or in separate new thread - burlmartExplorerI saw their vid where yoy lpug it to phone and router.

It worked flawlessly. The FAQ on the MJ website indicated that it "should" work, so I wanted to check to make sure.

The pic looks like it needs to have a computer on full time. I thought they had a version that goes before the router.
Can you try MJ and down the road switchover the old landline phone to MJ, or must you do this right away?
It needs to be connected to a network box or to the network connection on your router. Only the not Plus version of MJ needs a computer - though you do have the option to use MJ Plus with a computer so it could be used in an RV on a laptop with wifi. - 1492ModeratorNo, it doesn't require connection to PC. - Bo-manExplorerGoing on three yrs. with my MJ. and for about $30 a year for unlimited phone service its hard to beat..either router or computer must be on though!!:B

There is a new version of MJ now available called the 2014 MagicJack Plus(pics), which reportedly includes an upgraded chipset for better voice quality, USB ports to support 4G/LTE adapters, and future WiFi capabilities. Along with the standard network and phone adapter ports. They're offering it to existing users for $29.95, though not yet shipping to retail locations. Comes with only 6-months free service.
