Battery in a cell phone

I have to agree that sometimes when there is a problem the only way around it is to pull the battery. Iphones have non-removable batteries. Those are the only phones that I have heard that are like that. I have a tablet that has a non-removable battery. You can generally get a replacement battery with full instructions and the tool needed to open the case from online retailers. But still, pulling that battery when needed is a big deal.

I am glad that I saw this thread as my wife is on Straight Talk and was looking at the Moto as a replacement phone.

Just did some checking - Straight Talk is offering the Moto E - here is link to removing the battery door - just like any other phone -

BUT SURPRISE this only gets you inside where you have to take apart the phone to get to the battery - so yes, it has a non-removable battery which is not mentioned by any of the reviews.

thanks for the heads up. That is important to me because verizon doesn't work where I am at. Saved me from making a bad purchase.

The battery has at the most a life of 3 years, But with modern Cell phones it can be just one or two years... I have replaced the battery in my S-III. So that is the problem.

The batteries get old and die.

Replaceable batteries make the phone bigger. Engineers have to add room for connectors, a hold down mechanism, the door and the engineering it goes into making it secure, etc. It's not a tactic to force you to buy a new phone... the carrier has other ways of doing that.

IMO, it's a scam started by Apple to sell more phones. They don't like us replacing a battery for 99 cents, would rather we buy a new multi-hundred-dollar phone.

Sometimes a phone will "lock up" and removing the battery is a way to "reboot" it. I'd prefer to be able to do so.

I wouldn't let the battery issue hamper your decision. I have the Moto G and like many Apple products, the battery can be replaced by many phone repair places or you can replace it yourself if you have good vision and steady hands. There are YouTube videos on how to split the case and replace the battery. I have replaced the batteries on a few older iPhones...it was a bit unnerving the first time but not an impossible task.

Heavy phone users like to have a spare battery to swap out but you obviously cannot do that with some phones.

DH had a phone where the battery couldn't be removed. After a year, he had to buy a new phone rather than just a new battery when the battery stopped holding a charge.

My phone is about 4 years old. I just replace the battery every year or so and it works great. We have Verizon unlimited data plans and since we want to keep it, replacing batteries is cheaper than buying a new phone or losing the data plan.
