What’s wrong with a Velocity hotspot?
There's nothing "wrong" with the original Velocity, it's just a very basic device that lacks many of the important features found in newer devices. It doesn't have any external antenna ports, so you can't connect it to an antenna; it only supports 2X carrier aggregation, it doesn't cover all of the AT&T bands and it can't simultaneously broadcast in 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. 5Ghz is faster and not prone to interference like 2.4Ghz is. However, if you have printers or older computers that can only connect to 2.4Ghz then you have to set the hotspot to broadcast in 2.4Ghz. Newer hotspots allow you to broadcast in both frequencies at the same time so each device can connect to what it uses best.
For anyone interested in understanding how newer features can really increase performance, watch this video: Hotspot features
I personally wouldn't purchase an outdated device when newer devices are readily available and affordable.
