Yes, it depends on where you travel. There are no roaming charges when using Verizon towers and we found very few areas that did not have Verizon towers.
If you do hit one of the few areas where Verizon doesn't have towers, and you make a call . . . the system tells you that you are roaming and asks if you want to proceed.
