blocking phone numbers

I keep getting unsolicited phone calls. I block them in my phone but keep getting them using another number. The way it's going, I'm going to run out of room in my phone before scammers run out of phone numbers.

Any better fix?

What is best fix?
  • The person who develops an effective screen will make a fortune. I get at least 6 calls a day on the house phone, and now we are getting a few on the cells. On the cell I block the number, but often I will get the same cold call later from a different number...I don't know how many blocked numbers I can keep in memory, might need a bigger card. It is a problem.
  • It's a new era; junk TV commercials, junk mail, and junk phone calls!
  • If it's a cell phone there are a number of pretty good call blockers. On the Android I've used Extreme Call Block and lately Vblocker. They both access large databases of known spam callers that block the calls from those numbers and you can add additional ones too. With Vblocker you can even submit a number/report of a new spam caller. It seems to be pretty active too - every couple of hours I see multiple new numbers added to their database.

The only really annoying thing is that it seems it has become impossible to block voicemail. So a blocked call typically ends up rolling over to voicemail where they can leave a message that you need to retrieve and delete. I've read that on Andorid this is due to some change in permissions in later versions of the OS, but it appears to me that it may be due to the way service providers are handling voicemail on your cell phones. T-Mobile and AT&T both lock you into using their voicemail and don't seem to have options for blocking it for certain numbers. It burns minutes on my T-Mobile which are limited to trash these which costs me money. On AT&T with unlimited minutes it only takes my time to trash them.

Here at our house I turned OFF the phone ringer... have no idea the phone is even ringing... It goes to answer machine and if I don't hear the kids say "DAD Answer the phone " it goes unattended... Then once a day I go through any calls that may have hit the answer machine and we missed it was a valid number with info for us... If not then I clear all the answer machine calls each day...

Usually all I hear on my phone caller ID is the city calling unless it is from someone I have a valid phone number listed in my telephone.

Actually the only phone that sounds out is the one in my Computer/Radio room...

When you get older like us you would think we would to hear the phone ring but too much is too much... Crazy world we live in now...

It does make us laugh once in awhile on how the CALLER ID pronounces some the city names...

don't answer. I have about 50 of them.

Yes, I don't answer if I don't see a name or if call is not from my area code. If somebody really need me they'll leave a message.

But wondering if there is a better way?
