My 2005 Dodge RAM's CD player/radio displays an "Err" message every time I put a disc in. I juts sits there and it seconds later ejects is back out.
Someone here must know how to fix a CD player with an "Err" issue?.:?
p.s. Radio AM/FM option functions o.k. Many thanks in advance.
Typically CD players are pretty much not worth spending the time fixing and OEMs start out in the junk category any ways.
The lens has gotten chipped, laser is failing, platter motor is not spinning, laser assembly not moving (broken gear or gear rack), load motor jamming or many other possible issues.
One common problem is the disc clamp not gripping the disc tight enough due to dirt/grease or load motor failing to complete the load operation.. Some folks have had some success fixing this by tearing the deck apart and scrubbing the clamp it WILL eventually fail and you WILL end up tearing the unit out of your dash again..
These units were never intended to be serviced, and to get to the mechanicals often is difficult or impossible to do without cutting wires (if you are lucky you might find a few plug in connectors) in order to get the boards out of your way.
Do yourself a huge favor, pull the unit and slam dunk it into your nearest trash container and never look back. Buy an AFTERMARKET stereo and you will have instant upgrade.
Aftermarket stereos offer many upgraded features like MP3 on CD and even directly from USB or SD cards not to mention extras like Sat radio over the air HD radio, streaming like Pandora through BluTooth and even Hands free phone and even GPS. Many of these features can be found on aftermarket stereos for as low as $100..
