Cell / Internet booster..Wilson 2B5125 or 2B5325

Getting ready to finally do some camping next summer and want to make sure I have internet so I can kind of work from my campsite.
I just switched over to Verizon yesterday and got a Jetpack to use for my laptop. This morning I found a Wilson 4G Booster with a 12" mag mount antenna on craigslist for $50 and just drove 175 miles round trip and got it...
My question is that he ended up giving me to Wilson Cradle Boosters (after we chatted for about 25mins about camping)
Which one is the newest or better one? Model 2B5125 or 2B5325?

  • To find the dBm signal strength on the 6620L, scroll through the menu til you get to the icon the is an "i" in a circle. It will say "About Jetpack" under it.

Press the check mark button under the "i". Press the check mark again to go to the next screen, labeled "Internet Status"

The 4th line down will say "Signal" and there will be a number next to it with dBm beside the number.

The lower the number, the stronger the signal. The scale is logrithmic so a small change can make a difference.

    i.e. -80 is much better than -99

    Hope this helps
  • I looked through the manual and searched the internet.... can't find how to get to the dB strength screen on the Jetpack
  • Bars don't tell the story. Check the dBm numbers that the 6620L shows both with and without the booster. The real world test is to run speedtest.net (or similar program) on your computer multiple times and compare the results. You'll need to do half a dozen repeats of both in the booster and out of the booster to get averages, as the results can vary quite a bit even done back to back.

Testing often shows that when you are in a strong Verizon area the boosters don't increase the actual download and upload speeds near as much as they do when you are in an area with a weak Verizon signal.

It's my understanding that this has to do with the MiMo antennas on the 6620L and the single antenna on the boosters.
  • 6620L.... I tested out the booster tonight.. I put the 12"Mag mount on my Refrigerator in the kitchen away from any windows..My Jetpack went from 2 bars to 4 bars.. At the campground next summer I'll mount it outside the camper on top of a 15 pvc pipe with a 2 X 2 ft piece of sheet metal bolted to the top of the pipe.. If the coax cable was longer I would of put it up on top a piece of 20 - 25 ft pvc pipe.

What model Verizon Jetpack did you get?
  • I emailed Wilson's Website... They said

Both will boost the 3G frequencies for all major carriers. The 2B5125 also boosts the 4G for Verizon where the 2B5325 boosts the 4G for AT&T.

I have the WILSON CRADLE passive boosters in both the trailer and my truck using the VERIZON towers.

This really extends the footprint for our wifi enabled devices when being used around our patio and near vicinity of the camp site. Being small units I can drop my MIFI in the shirt pocket if we are doing some long walks along the trails or coastline... Tablets work great...

In the truck my MIFI units works great allowing us to use some of our WIFI enables tablets etc going down the road with minimum dropouts etc... Both my WILSON units have the longer antenna and are the 2G/3G models. My older units don't do the 4G networks haha...

We also get by just fine with our older 3G dataplan units... This of course doesn't allow for any downstreaming TV Channel programs or movies.

You will need something in the 20G dataplan (and larger) to even start thinking about doing that.

I gave up on trying to use the campground WIFI signals along time ago.

  • I'm coming to the same conclusion after about 45mins of research 2B5125 is the 4G-V for Verizon and the 2B5325 is 4G-A more for AT&T
