Christmas Lights Electrical Problem

I have a piece of two wire cord that ends in a triple two prong plug in molded connector. To that, I have a small lamp, and my Christmas Tree lights plugged in to the molded plug in. The six strings on the tree are the usual, male one end, female at the other end, all in line modern mini lights.

This morning we came down and turned on the switch controlling the lights and lamp. The lamp did not come on, and only the bottom half of the Christmas tree lights came on.

I am at a bit of a loss to explain how that can happen? Open to any suggestions as to how that circuit might have worked.

That light string / strand is not safe to use! Trash it or risk having it short out and starting a fire.

  • Six strings may have been too much for an aging fuse on one string of lights. Check the fuses as chast suggested.
  • Christmas lights usually have a small fuse built in to the male plug end. Start with the first string of lights that did not light and go from there. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
