Win 10 will certainly let you put in shortcuts, choose a home page, and add a toolbar.

I think you really mean that you are having trouble doing these things with the new Edge browser which is the default in Windows 10. It can still do those things, it's just not as obvious how to do them.

You don't have to use the Edge browser, Internet Explorer is still there for you to use if that's your preference (look through the Start menu for it or search for it with Cortana). You could also install a 3rd party browser such as FireFox or Chrome. I personally use FireFox on all of my Win 10 computers.

Each browser application (Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, Google Chrome) will let you set any home page you want. You either go through the browser tools or options to set it. It's done with each browser program, really has nothing to do with Windows 10. You can have IE set for one home page, Google Chrome another, and Firefox another yet.

We purchased new laptops just last week from Best Buy. Ended up getting Dells. But did look at the stand alone all-in-one no tower computers. Really interesting machines. But too big and not portable enough for me. Ended up getting the Dell 2-in-one (flip back touch screen, that functions like a tablet as well as a laptop with keyboard). I wanted the portability. But those all-in-one's are pretty cool machines.

If you want to create shortcuts on your desktop here's what you do.

Go to File Explorer and click on Desktop. It will open up as a folder. You can drag and drop to it.

Go to woot.com, owned by amazon. Fully guaranteed refurbished computers. Bought a desktop and laptop. I'll never buy a new computer again.

The company I worked for bought only refurbished Dells unless a user need a special configuration. The IT guy said some failed the final QC, some were lease returns, some are contract overruns for places like Best Buy, government or corporations, others returned by buyers for other reasons and some were actually scratch and dent either on the assembly line or shipping to original owner.

They refurbs come with the full factory warranty and support. Since retiring we've never bought anything but Dell refurb or scratch and dent. No problems.

OK so. I went to Best buy. Just to look around and pick their Geek brains. While I was there they pointed me to the "open box" isle, and while there I met up with a guy from church, and he hooked me up with his Daughter in law who gave me a really good deal on what turned out to be a floor demonstration PC. It has no tower, the processor is in the back of the monitor. It is touch screen. A Lenovo IdeaCentre A7 Series. With all in one Intel Pentium 4GB Memory and 1TB Hard drive. 21.5" touch screen.

She cut it from the "sale price of $455.0 to $375.

I was always a PC "tower" (desktop), big clunky monitor, wires everywhere, separate keyboard person. I had a very hard time accepting any change. I ran through several desktop PC's over the years. It seems they all lasted, at most 3 years or so and then had to get a new upgraded one, because technology was changing so fast.

Then ... introduce the laptop. I got my first laptop while I still had a working, functioning desktop, but VERY quickly navigated to the laptop and wondered why I hadn't switch long before then!

Laptops give you the freedom to go anywhere, and take up small space, and have as much (or more) power than any desktop I ever owned, maybe even all of them combined together.

I still like an external keyboard though, and use a wireless mouse now. I still do not like touch pads, but I am really enjoying the touch screen, like on my cell phone. With keyboard and touch screen, it's a whole new world.

Add wireless internet, you can take the laptop anywhere, and it a new day indeed!

Old timer, I'm an old timer myself, and not getting younger either! I'm tell you, move to a laptop, get a new one, a decent one, and you won't regret it, once you get familiar with it.

I'm sure you can find a refurbished laptop too. If you are not doing on-line gaming, you'll be fine with one a couple years old. And by the way, I'm on Windows 10 now, and I've not experienced any problems.

I use Refurb's here as well in some positions, Fairly good luck, one lasted only 3 years but that's the exception.. I got a better machine for 100 dollars. Since I already had the monitor that was no problem. Pulled the HD out of the old one (HP Desktops are leggo machines, You can remove and install HD's without so much as a screwdriver) and put it in the new one as Drive E (I think) Works good and does exactly what I want. (And then some).. Very happy with it.

This is my "File Server" here in the Motor home, it has one primary job.. Download two files from Schedules Direct (An XHMTL Television Guide Service) Combine and edit the listings and serve them up to my vintage ReplayTV DVR's.

It also allows me to program the DVR's via LAN (Way easier than the other way) Download shows and share them with other devices,, And a few other functions related to the DVR's.

IT also is a "Spare" for network access.

Dell and HP and probably the other major vendors lease tens of thousands of PC to large companies. These are typically turned in every 3-5 years and then resold. Usually this is a good deal.
