computer to gps

About a month ago I was looking at a website that allowed you to map out a route on your computer and then save it to a gpx or csu file, and then load it into a gps, I own Garmins. (The site was not GarminBase Camp). I think it was a rv cg searchable site like Allstays or RV Parky. I thought I booked marked it but now I can't find it.

Any thoughts?

If you all ready have base camp you can down load and install the last version of garmins mapsource. Plan your route there. open base camp, clean everything out of it and then import the route to let you upload to the newer 2xxx and up to Nuvi's.

It is also best to clean out all old routes(trip) and waypoints(favorites) before you open Base Camp with the nuvi connected.

I use Garmin's Mapsource program to plan my routes and then save them as a gpx file on the computer then connect my Nuvi 2557 to the computer and copy the gpx file to the GPX folder on the Nuvi. I tried Base Camp some time back but much prefer MapSource. You can have many gpx files at one time in the Nuvi's GPX folder.
  • Tyretotravel.com A europe company that uses google maps. Works with Tomtom or Garmin.

  • Tyre Mapping Software -- http://www.tyretotravel.com/

Free to download. Similar to S&T and uses Google Maps. Can export .gpx files to Garmin and Tom Tom.

In the past I have found the more waypoints you put in, the more likely your GPS will follow YOUR route and not the one the GPS wants to take.
  • Go to http://www.yournavigation.org
Fill in your from/to, zoom in/out with mouse wheel, etc.
Click on Export tab, select gpx. Export.

Then you can import that route into your device.

This is the workaround we use when Geocaching's PocketQuery Route planning is not functioning.

    Help that hopes!

  • Dave, thanks for getting back. The more I'm looking now, I think it was the "pro" version of Allstays that advertises that. It's about $30 per year. Not sure if it's worth it me me. Hoping someone else has some suggestions
  • I'm sorry but I have no suggestions for the website you're looking for and hope someone else can come up with an answer to your question.

For years I've been using Microsoft Streets & Trips software for planning RV trips and delivery routes for my Lions Club citrus sales. In recent years I've been transferring that data to my Garmin using gpx files. It works quite will for the citrus routes (where the delivery points are close together) but not so good for long trips unless you put in a lot of extra waypoints in before uploading the gpx file. Garmin will reroute as it sees fit between waypoints which may or may not be the way you want to go. I can only assume that this would be the same with any other mapping software gpx uploaded to a Garmin.

Since Microsoft last updated S&T was 2013 and there will be no more I’m like you and will have to find some other trip planning software also.

    Dave
