Connecting to Campground WIFI

our camp has a wifi download of 29mbps, 3 up from an input of 50 mbps after it is broadcast via wifi. Its the best our ip and new radios, antennas, modems and firewalls can provide.

We have throttling equipment and software by ' Ruckus' that allows 1 mbps / device so that no one can use more than a fair share of what we can provide. Video Streaming is blocked. Another feature of ' Ruckus' is that after a short time of inactivity, you are booted off, must log back on to continue.
Imagine a 100 site camp with 2-3 devices / site that all expect to leave on. There goes the bandwidth. Even when not in use, a connected device takes a piece of the pie.

We do have hardlines at the office as do many other camps that allow wider bandwidth and speed.

Until fiber optic cableing reaches the hinterlands this is what you can expect. Its not the camp, its the provider and then the broadcast distance and # of users sharing a finite service

If you want "reliable" wifi, use your phone hot-spot. If you use the internet a lot, pay the price and get an unlimited data plan. It's the only way to be somewhat sure you'll always have an internet connection. We have an unlimited plan (both or phones), because we also do a lot of work-from-home, and when our internet goes down at home, we can flip over to our phone hot-spots. Also, because we also do a lot of work from home, we'll often take off in the middle of the week for a few days and work from a campground. Our phone hot spot is the only reliable one we've had.

In addition to any connection issues, it is likely that the park has some type of throttling software in use. Parks outside of major metro areas likely have limited bandwidth available. Without a system to allocate that bandwidth, the first person to start streaming their daily dose of porn would hog it all. With allocation software, there is at least something for everyone.

It may be slow because to many people on using it at the same time.
