Connecting Winegard G2+

I have an early Carry out which is somewhat different. Your set up doesn't seem correct.

Make the outside cable connection does not go through any devices.

What seems wrong with it? I have that manual and it is set up as per the instructions. What do you do different?

We have a G2+ and your directions seem correct. Once the power inserter is powered, it should provide power to the dome to start the search process.

The other way to test would be to bypass the Sat connection on the outside and route the cable direct to the dome through a window to see if the RV cabling is somehow bad.

This setup procedure has worked in the past. But now we cannot get it to find a signal. Connecting the cable directly to the inserter box it begins searching and find a signal right away. I suspect that something is going on with the connection at the RV. And of course that is all inside the walls. LOL

Make sure the antenna booster power switch is off.
Do you have a video switch to change from different sources?

Source is set to satellite. Antenna switch off...hmm, don't think we have ever turned that off but will make sure when I try it again later today.

The satellite cable comes into the rig, where does it go?
I am thinking it is attached to the antenna booster power supply.
My rig came with a video switch to separate antenna, cable and satellite from each other. it also makes it possible to watch different TVs from different sources. (only one satellite source)

Oh dear, you are talking way beyond my knowledge. LOL
Everything has been hooked up for months and it has all worked in the past with no problems. Nothing has been unhooked or changed so I know everything is where it's supposed to be.
When we want to watch tv with the satellite, IF I remember correctly (and that's a big IF) all we have done is make sure source is set to Satellite, direct tv receiver box and small Winegard inserter box unplugged and the inserter box button for power not pushed in.
Connect cable to Sat Input on the RV and other end to the dome.
Then plug in the little Winegard inserter box and push button to turn it on. Then it searches for a signal, when it stops making search noise we plug in the Direct TV receiver and then can watch tv.
Now it doesn't search, BUT if I connect the cable from the dome directly to the Winegard inserter box it searches, finds a signal and we can watch tv. I suspect something is amiss with the connection on the Sat Input on the outside of the RV.
I don't know what else it could be. Have proved that it's not the dome because it will work fine if plugged in directly to the inserter box.
We even bought a new RG6 cable in case something was wrong with the one we had.

Does the G2 make any kind of noise?

If you have a volt meter, check the satelite exterior connector for 12 volts DC.

I would plug the receiver in before I powered the power inserter on. That way the receiver can communicate directly to the dome as needed. The receiver is what manages whether or not the satellite signals have already been programmed or it needs to find them again. You can also initiate a "setup" that will start the process all over again from the menu displayed on the screen.
