  • Does not look too Bad.

  • I work in the IT department of a university and the screens on our loaner iPads get broken. We replace the glass on about 1 per semester. It never looks perfect, but it works just fine. My tips would be to go slowly, use only plastic tools, and take your time.

If you call around to cell phone repair places, you should find someone who can do it for $50.
  • It depends on the phone and what is damaged. If the phone's screen works but is cracked, then its most likely just the digitizer which in many cases is glued to the glass. If the screen is not working at all, then you may need to also replace the LCD screen. Some digitizers are also glued to the LCD necessitating replacing both.

The repair difficulty factor depends on the specific phone. Some parts and repair services provide detailed videos on screen replacements. I'd refer to these over those videos uploaded by users who may be doing this for the first time.

  • I considered replacing mine after it fell out of my pocket. Verizon let me add insurance after the fact, so it cost me the $100 deductible to get a new phone. That turned into a good investment after my wife killed three phones in one month. Two were lost to cracked screens and one to a plunge into the dog's water bowl. The insurance covered two and I had to buy one.
  • when my daughter's iphone screen cracked, I went to craigslist and found someone who would meet me at a neutral location or my home and put in a new screen for $70. ebay option was going to be $35 for the screen and waiting for shipping and then follow youtube video. After watching the guy repair it, the additional $35 I spent to have him come out the same day and do it for me was very well spent. Of course someone in your area might not be as good or have the same price as the guy I had, but I think it's worth looking into.
