Here is a site with video showing how to use a GoPro as a dash cam. They say you can sit up the record looping function and install external power. They do not say anything about auto turn-on but for me it would not matter. My cig lighter / 12v plugs have power all the time so we have to plug in & unplug the dash cam anyway. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/11/diy-turn-your-gopro-into-a-24-hour-dash-cam-w-video/ I did not watch the video so maybe more info in the video.
