I agree fake is probably not the ideal word, but it's the word used on the review site.
"Counterfeit" would probably be a better word for it. It's a cheap knock-off imitation of the real product, deceptively labeled and packaged to look like the genuine article. It works, for the most part, but does not have the features, quality, or performance that you think you're buying. It's like plunking down your hard earned money for a "Rolex",and finding out you really got a "Rolox" imitation that doesn't keep proper time and falls apart after a couple weeks.
