Delete 'BING'

Something keeps updating and using data allowance on this Wdws8 program - I think it might be "Bing' ... and I've deleted it a couple times but it keeps coming back.

I'd like to uninstall it completely - which I thought I did, but seems not - because sometimes it pops up when I'm searching. Can anyone tell me where it is located, so I can uninstall it totally.

It's Toshiba laptop with Windows8 ... I go to uninstall on the control panel, but BING is not there?

Not positive this is taking my data allowance - but something is updating too frequently and using double my allowance in a month.

Any suggestions what it might be (if not Bing)- I've shut off all I can find and know about. But used 9G last month instead of under 5G, my normal amount (usually 3G-4G).
  • Mentioning that "it pops up when I am searching" concerns be. Bing should never "pop up". What's actually happening? Are you seeing a separate pop up box or does the Bing tool bar just show up in the browser bar after several uses?
If the Bing tool bar is there you can go to Control Panel>Programs and Features and look for anything in that list that says Bing. Highlight the program and uninstall this.
  • Or, does he need to go into Windows Update and tell it only to inform him of available updates, not download and install them? I don't use Win8, but in Win7 I go into Windows Update and click "Change Settings". There I tell it to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them."

That way you can choose to download them when you are connected by some means other than limited bandwidth. I personally don't care for my computers doing anything without my knowledge.
  • I wonder if the OP updated to Windows 8.1 over the past month. That would use ~3GB by itself.

Bing is a search engine on the web, not a program. If you are using IE Bing will be your default search engine.
  • In light of your self admitted knowledge, it may be in your best interest to take your computer to computer shop and have them turn off the live tiles and analyze what is using your bandwidth. I doubt that Bing is using any bandwidth, in that is an add-on for your web browser that you are not using.
  • when your in Internet Explorer go to tools-manage add-ons and then disable what you want to . you might have to restart the computer.
  • CTRL/ALT/DELETE
This should bring up the "Start Task Manager". From there look at the tabs and click on processes. This will bring up everything running on your computer. Look to see everything that is eating up system memory.
