Desk top to Taskbar Windows 7

Can't get my Hotmail from the desk top to the taskbar, I tried to unlock the taskbar and it just bounces back to the desk top.
I have done this before with other short cuts from the desk top but can't figure it out this time, any ideas ? Thanks in advance. Jay

Hotmail comes in through your browser. In your case IE. It is called a favorite if you save it on your desktop. You can't open a browser favorite (hotmail) without having it open in a browser.
Under Win7 you cannot pin a favorite to the taskbar, you can only pin it to your browser icon on your taskbar.
If you want to get to a hotmail account without going on the internet, you will need to install a program such as Thunderbird which will read your emails and put them on your computer for later reading without the internet.

    ReadyToGo,
I went to the start button and than all programs and right click on IE and saved it to the taskbar, now all I have to do is right click on it and it shows my E mails and I click on the one I want and it opens it without opening IE. Thanks, Jay

A shortcut is not a program or app and I believe that is all you can pin to Task or Start Bars. If your default browser is pinned to the Task Bar, you can pin it to your default browser, the program or app it is associated with, by dragging to task bar and choosing that option. Then it becomes available by hovering over the browser in your Task Bar.

I know that a shortcut is not a program or a app
I can right click on a program from the start button and pin it to the taskbar. I did this with Internet Explore and when I right click on it in the taskbar it shows me a list of were I have been and it also shows my e-mails ( Hotmail and Gmail ) I click on the one that I want and it open it up with out bring up IE. that is all I was wanting.
Some times my wife just wants the E-mail and no internet.
    Thanks, Jay

  • Thanks for the ideas, but I didn't get it to work, here is what I found.
I have Windows 7 home premium and if it's not in the all programs from the start button it won't pin. When I right click a program from the start button it will pin it to the taskbar.
With IE in the taskbar all I have to do is right click on it and a window opens and it will have my Hotmail and G-mail in their and I can click on the one I want and it opens it. ( that works for me )

I have Hotmail and I think outlook an now windows live mail are the
the updates from Hotmail, is this right ?
Again thank you for all the help. Jay

I just found a way to do it.

Go to your account on the web. Sign in and go to your inbox.
Right click on a white space on the inbox and click create shortcut.
When it asks if you want to create a shortcut on your desktop click yes

Once the shortcut is on your desktop, left click and drag it to the task bar.

    Hope that works for you
  • If that doesn't work and you still don't have the Pin to Taskbar option, then your User Account(Registry) may be corrupted. Try to log in to WIN 7 using a different user account, you may have to create one, and see if the Pin option is available?
  • Try going into the all programs menu and right click on Hotmail there.
Now you should have a pin to task bar choice

  • Right mouse click on the Hotmail shortcut, and select "Pin to Taskbar".
