- margemakExplorerOk all thanks you have given me some great ideas
- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerDirectv does not have RV techs who understand the way satellite systems are installed in RV's.
If you are at your home base, have them send you the receiver and install it yourself. It's very easy. If you want someone to install it an RV shop or mobile satellite tech needs to do it. We use Sats2Go in Houston TX.
Camping World also installs them.
In Oregon,
Advanced Satellite is one company that RV dealers use.

Drive up to the Seattle area and they will get you set up. - W4RLRExplorer

At Best Buy you are buying a LEASE, you are not buying the receiver. You can buy the equipment elsewhere and be okay as long as the decoder card is valid and has not been tampered with.
I assume your full time? You do know you can buy a sat receiver places like Best Buy. - donn0128Explorer III assume your full time? You do know you can buy a sat receiver places like Best Buy.

Thanks for your help - JudgerrExplorerHad that problem about 3 yrs ago. Went to Texas for winter. I had a dish for standard def. but it wouldn't work for HD. Called and argued for an hour with phone rep. I was willing to pay for them to come and give me a dish for HD reception. I said look, if I called from my home you would come out and give me a dish for my camper, I am offering to pay for the Dam dish! Why can't you do that? Finally the lady said O.K. we will do that for $$ I don't remember the amount. Then she said just a moment, and put me on hold. About 3 or 4 min later she came back and said they would be out tomorrow and there would be no charge!
So they came and installed a dish on my tripod. Which I use now every year when I go to Texas. I just have to line it up to Sat. and am good to go, after calling in and telling them I am back in Texas. Then I do the same when back in Illinois for the summer!
Didn't mean this to get so long but hang in there it can be done! - BobboExplorer IIIThe only challenging part is aiming the antenna, and the installer can't do that for you because you do that at each campsite.
1. coax cable from antenna to receiver
2. coax cable from receiver to tv
3. plug in receiver
If you are trying to re-use the "cable input" the RV already has, you may or may not be able to do that. And the installer won't have a clue. BTW, mine would not work, I had to run a new coax cable from the outside of the MH to the location where I put the receiver. The installer definitely won't do that. - donn0128Explorer IIWhat type of antenna do you have? If none yet, go online and find a retailer that will sell you a complete package. When it arrives set it up. Where in WA are you located? For a fee I will come and get you set up.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIYou call DirecTV, they switch you to King Dome
you call and they switch you to king dome (Well King Controls Inc)
You call and say "If you switch me to King Controls again I'm calling Dish Network"
installer arrives tomorrow.
Option 2. Go directly to installer
Both options: BE SURE TO REQUEST A RV-Waiver form so you can get Distant Network Service less you plan to camp close to home.
