- JoeGood988ExplorerI had the protection plan for a ew years only to find out it doesn't cover what I wanted it for. It's suppose to cover damage due to lightning or any other accidents that damage the system. Power surges and other problems. But when I took it out, they said if something happened to the dish alignment, loss of signal, they would come out and realign the dish at no charge....well, not so, if the dish is mounted on the ground, on blocks as most RV's do, having kids run into your dish, knocking it out of alignment isn't a emergency situation...a $50 service call is charged. If I have to move the dish and need a tech to get the signal...$50 service fee.
The service contract is $5 per month added to the bill...$60 a year. Having a service call is cheaper than a yearly fee...also I had a power surge that messed up the receiver..they replaced it for free with no service contract...because I was a long time member - GTO66Explorer IIThey charge 7.99 a month to protect there equipment.I wish I could charge a protection charge on a rental property. Say the a/c breaks sorry you don't have the protection plan.I didn't find out about the protection plan till I got the first bill. Just wondering how often there is a problem with the equipment?
- JRS___BExplorerOff the topic but, FYI - both Dish and Direct TV now prohibit their service people from going on roofs. They do all of their work from a ladder on the side of your house.
Now I know some will still scamper up there because it is too much time and trouble to call in and get the harness and all. But if the say they cannot go on your roof, they are telling the straight story, at least in Michigan. - K_CharlesExplorerDirectv said you can't own the box, you pay $5 a month. If it doesn't work you send it back and they send you another. Back when it was USSB we had to buy the box but that was a long time ago.
- JRS___BExplorerProtection against having to pay the $50 service charge for labor/service call.
I have one HD DVR and one non-HD-DVR. I believe if I ask to have the non-HD changed out it for a HD, it would cost me $50.
If the wind moved my dish and it had to be adjusted, I think that might cost $50. - Tom_NExplorerProtection against what??
- JRS___BExplorerA service call is roughly $50. It is fixed amount to the customer no matter what they do.
I do not remember what the protection plan costs.
The deal is that when they come out to service their own equipment, the parts are no cost, but the labor cost is for an outside contractor who gets a fixed fee.
The last time I had a bad HD DVR it cost me $50.
The tech said I should have signed up for the protection plan, and then just cancelled it the next month. - Road_RunnersExplorerwhat does a directv protection plan do? I had directv starting in it inception up till two years ago when I had a falling out with them. In all the years I was with them I never knew of a protection plan.
- tkcas01ExplorerDidn't recall there was a plan. I've had directv for almost 8 years in my RV and never needed it.
