The OP has an 18" round antenna-not capable of receiving the DirecTV HD programming. If he calls and changes locals, as he did, but the locals are not available in SD then he would not be able to receive the locals at all with that antenna. There is no way around that problem other than to get the proper kind of antenna that can receive all 3 satellites.
Also, All American Direct is Dish Network and he was referring to DirecTV. DirecTV still does allow distant network services and they are available in HD or SD so the OP could use that service seamlessly with his 18" round antenna and use his Batwing to watch the local news and weather.
