Directv 771 signal problem - help

Bad lnb on the end of the dish or a bad connector on an end of your coax

OP here. I am tech impaired - do I need to go up on roof and check/tighten connections at the winguard?

Will a Directv service tec come to the rv and make the repair if I give them a call? Or is this a DIY? I know lots of you can do these repairs, but I do not have the knowledge to even know what cable is what? If this is not something a Directv tec will fix, how about a mobile tech?

You will have to find someone to troubleshoot it for you. If you are using a SK-3005 dish try letting it search for a signal again. Then if it either shuts down or locks and no picture then it is possible a bad LNB. If you can do it yourself then it is time to pay a mobile tech to fix it.

DirecTV has made RV Park service calls for us (no charge of course). One factor is that we've been their customers since 2000 - they always thank me for being a loyal customer.

It can't hurt to ask.

DirecTV will make no charge service calls if you pay for the monthly protection plan; otherwise a service call is ~$50. Some technicians will work on an RV DTV system, some will not. It's the luck of the draw.

Once your Trav'ler is up and locked on it never adjusts itself. That means that if your coach settles slightly the antenna will no longer be properly pointed. The best course of action is to stow the Trav'ler and then start a new search. In a couple of minutes you should be back in business. If you are in rainy conditions you can also choose to watch the SD version of the DirecTV programming (Menu, Settings, Display, Preferences, Show All Channels) to cut down on the rain fade on the HD (KA band) channels.

Check your signal strength, menu, setup, satellite, view signal strength. Make sure it is 88 or better. If it is, then most likely bad LNB.

op again. did receiver reauthorization. temporary fix. this am, no signal at all "searching for sat 771" message.

Did you follow Bills advise to allow the travler to re aquire the signal? Do that first. LNB is the device on the end of the arm that recieves the incoming signal. The dish simply is a radiator. It only focuses the signal to one location, the LNB which then sends the signal down via a coax cable to the receiver. Dead LNB no signal, bad coax cable, no signal. Mis aligned antennq, no signal. You receiver is fine. It is not getting a signal. Power your travler off, let it park and then turn it back on and allow it to domits search finction and report back how it goes.

OP, again :( I "stowed" the dish, and then powered it back up. Nothing. I also tried to reset the receiver using the red button. That only made things worse, it is in mid-reset and stuck in "searching for signal 771". I am a fulltimer, lots of sat dish use and lots of bumpy miles along the way. The system has been flawless for almost 5 yrs. I am guessing, based on the feedback here, that I have a connection issue - coax or lnb - I know I have a clear sky and weather is not an issue. It's strange, all was working ok until 2 days ago, then whammy

I will call directv tomorrow morning, and see if they will dispatch a service tech. I have no issue paying for the call, I do not have the protection plan. If direct doesn't send someone, can I just use any "mom and pop" type sat system installer type? I have no idea who does this kind of work, but I know enough to know that I don't know how to do it :) (wish I did)
