Directv zero signal

The OP has a H21 receiver. It only has one cable coming to it. He claims he has setup this configuration many times before without having to change the options (SWM v. Multiswitch, etc.). If we take him at his word, we can ignore those devices as being the problem.

However the OPs' statement:

"I have zeros all the way across the signal meters, with a message that says "tuner 1 not acquired" I know my dish is pointed close enough to get some signal."

"Close enough" is OK for sex and hand grenades but not satellite TV. I don't know what he used for a meter (if any) but for sure it isn't a Bulldog or equivalent that verifies the satellite.

I believe he is pointed at the wrong satellite(s). There are several non-DirecTV satellites near 101. He needs to find the DirecTV 101 satellite, peak the signal, and if the skew is correct (or close), the receiver should see all the satellites.

The ultimate solution varies depending upon the user. There is no telling what the OP's setup is but the best guess is he is making incorrect assumptions.
Since it's unlikely that he will ever acknowledge this, it's also unlikely that we will ever know the correct final resolution.

We fools look forward to hearing what the ultimate solution is.

The person that saved my sanity on my problem was Ivylog - Blairsville GA.

You said your HR24 has two cables coming in. But I thought the problem was with the HR21 that you took camping.

But I assume the HR21 also has two cables. Does tuner number 2 show all zeros as well?

If so, I would say your cables/connections are probably fine, but your dish is not aimed as accurately as you ASSUME it is.

I had pretty much the same problem last November. All zeros except for one lowly channel with snow.

Someone on this forum said I as aiming at the wrong satellite, so my separate meter was giving me such a loud report it was obliterating the second best signal, which was, in fact, the one I actually wanted from Direct TV.

The proposed solution was to just arbitrarily crank my slimline dish east about 3 degrees and see what happened. Was I ever happy when the the numbers started to fill in, and I was on my way after that.

I know everyone on this forum says there is absolutely no reason why a HD dish should be more difficult to aim than a standard dish, but I still find them to be a little more finicky. And the Direct TV people tell me the same thing.

No Bill-it is not set for SWM. Both boxes still do and have since 2007 say multiswitch. Also my HR24 has 2 cables coming in. HENCE I have said very clearly I HAVE NEVER HAD TO MAKE ANY FRICKEN CHANGES!!! Seems everyone wants to make me sound like the fool. Well guess what. Somebody just may be, and it is likely me! But not for the reason you think.

Someone told me to recheck the cables. Good advice, also the very first thing everybody thinks of and does.

Some mentioned different problems that are related to dishes mounted on the RV roof. AGAIN read my post. How could that possibly relate to my problem?

Seriously, I just wanted you guys to READ, READ, READ my post, then give me a logical answer. The only logical posts are the ones that told me of a possible solution. (IE) check cables--warped dish itself.

SWM-multiswitch could be a real problem granted, and it makes perfect sense, except, AGAIN if you would have really READ my post, I said I have never made any changes. If the house had been setup for SWM. and my portable setup was not, well then DUH!!! I would have been making changes, but I havent been.

Dont missunderstand me, I truly do appreciate your responses, but really just handing out different ideas, without truly understanding what the real problem is, just wastes lots of time and makes the people involved just more angered.

SWM and multi switches are not compatible. So make sure the correct setup is set in the satellite setup section on your DVR. Otherwise it won't work.

Also make sure you reset the box if you are sure everything is correct and try the pointing again. Also try changing out your wire to the box from the LNB.

Make sure there are not cable splitters in between the connection as well. Something many RV's have in excess.
