DIRECTV TO DISH

Sorry but a KVH L2/S2 will no longer work with DISH Network. DISH changed their transmission coding in March and older KVH and King Dome dome type antennas will no longer find DISH satellites automatically, you would have to try and do it manually if possible.

As a foot note to this I'll have to say I wouldn't use Dish in the MH. Only get one sat. and very little on it. Bought the little Sat antenna and still NOT happy. Went back to Direct with no problem.

I looked under KVH on mine. AL2/S2 and it says go to the receiver in setup and change the dish to a 500. This seemed to work but I kelp getting Western Sat. The receiver will tell you what Sat. your on. The instructions say go to 119. However I could not get it to go to the Eastern Sats. I'm in N. Ga. My Sat. installer put me on 61 E. in the house. I'll look at the manual again.

A 11 year old KVH dome will not really work that well for multiple Dish Sats. You will have to connect a Laptop and reprogram the KVH to receive the Dish signals. You need to contac KVH and ask what is involved to reprogram the Sat with your Laptop. KVH domes are the HARDEST Sat Domes to repair/fix/program, which is why most OEM's have gone to Winegard in the past years. It can take 2 to 4 hours to go thru the Laptop programming, which is why most Service Center's have stopped working on KVH products. At a minimum of $100 per hour, your bill can get to $400 or $500 dollars real quick. As I stated, get hold of KVH with your Model and serial number of the Dome and they can advise you if it is possible or feasible to program the dome. The model and S/n will be up on the dome and inside if no longer able to read the exterior model and S/N. Be advised, that KVH will probably ask for a Credit Card to bill YOU for the time their Tech walks you thru the programming. They have On line manuals and such but if you are not Tech savvy, you will probably not be able to do it without help. Doug

The in-line signal meter will acknowledge any satellite. There are thousands out there. Gotta find the right one.

If you're not interested in HD programming, then Dish's 110 satellite will probably work for you. 110 contains most of their legacy SD programming. Satellites 119 and 129 transmit the bulk of their HD programming.

Do you have a smartphone/iphone? Lotta good satellite apps that'll help you find the right satellite. There's also some good youtube videos on the subject.

Gotta know which satellite (i.e., 110) and your current location (i.e., latitude & longitude) in order to determine the correct azimuth and elevation settings for the satellite dish.

What kind of a complaint or sob story did you have to lay on them to get a nice reduction like that? We've been with Directv for about 7-8 years now and their fees have been creeping up for the last 2-3 years and I'm getting ready to change from one receiver to two for the newer technology so I'm expecting a pretty hefty jump next month.

I told them I was tired of the increase in fees and that Dish had offered me a better price to move. At first Direct offered me new equipment which I can't use as I have one dish feeding our main home and our guest house, so no HD for me. They offerd to drop to $86.00 and I told them they can do better and they did. Keep pressuring them and they will cave.

The biggest advantage of Dish IMO is that their OTA receiver will work with any signal it can pick up, while Direct receivers will tune only what's in the program guide. For me, the difference is that with Dish I can record Metv programs in the wee hours of the morning. No dice with Direct. This varies of course depending on which DMA you're in.
