Dish Network compatibility??????????

A year or so I upgraded my Home Dish from Dish 500, which pointed kinda South, to the other satellite with HDTV. They installed a receiver, VIP 612 DVR, with a new antenna and pointed it kinda East.
Prior to that I would just take one of our two receivers from home and put it in the RV and hook one cable from the 500 dish and tune it to the 110 and 119 Satellites.
Now I ask what do I need to get Dish in the RV with the new receiver.
I have been told several conflicting stories.
Can I use the new rcvr. with the old outside dish that is already mounted on the RV?
Do I point South to 110/119 or East to whatever that Sat. is?
HDTV isn't a necessity. I will be satisfied with the 110/119 channels.

    I get a green OK under 77, 72, and 61.5
    Device = 1K.4
    Status = reception verified

    switch = DPP 1K.4 with separator.
    We have two tv's and two VIP612 DVR's-------his and hers so to speak :)

    You have a 1000.4 Eastern Arc dish at your house which points about 10 degrees higher than your Dish 500.

    You might be able to still use your Western Arc Dish 500 -- just remember it will be at lower elevation on the East Coast. Also, to use both tuners on your 612, buy a DISH Pro Separator or take the one that is probably at your house.

  • Your signal strength is low for a home antenna. Should be closer to 70 but otherwise I would not be concerned.
    Can you get to the specific screen I mentioned where you click on the button that says Check Switch? You are on the Point Dish screen currently and in the upper right you should see the button labeled Check Switch. Click on the but do not click on any other option on that screen. I suspect you will see 61.5 and 72.7 listed only. Assuming I am correct then your home system is setup for the Eastern Arc satellites but you will be able to change that with a new Check Switch routine once you move to your RV. You will need a new portable antenna if you want to be able to pick up your local Network programming (now on 61.5) but that's cheap and easy and sets up just like your old Dish 500 did.
  • We got Dish at home years ago before there was a western HD satellite. They first put up a 2 LNB dish for 110/119. Later when they added HD they added a second single LNB dish and aimed it at 61.5. So I had one dish pointed south and one pointed east.
    Recently was having some problems with reception and they came out and replaced the two dishes with a single 3 LNB dish receiving 110/119/129 since they now have a western HD sat.

    I just realized you meant to check it on the HOME system. Here is the reading I got.
    1. My zip code
    2. Dish system = 500
    3. Tuner Input = 01
    4. Transponder = 06
    5. Satellite = 61.5

    The installer said it had to point to the Easterly one to get HDTV.
    I don't really need it if I can use my old dish.
    Thanks for any help you can give me.
    EDIT TO ADD = 53% signal strength.

  • Go to your TV/receiver and hit the Menu button. Type in the numbers 6-1-1 to get to the Dish Point screen and then click on the button that says Check Switch. Tell us what satellites are listed there. Do not proceed past this point, just exit your way out of the setup menu. I think you have been re-pointed to the Eastern Arc satellites but that's just a guess. Let us know what you find and we can get you the correct information.
