I have the tailgater from dish network and I love it. My only problem I have is getting my local networks changed when traveling. I have to call dish and tell them where I am at to get the major networks changed, but it usually takes more than one call and several transfers to find anyone who knows anything about rv service. From what I understand they use to have a department just for rv'ers but got rid of it a while back. I have also read on some of the forums that there is an option to set your networks to either New York or LA programming and have nationwide service. Has anyone been able to do this? Or, does anyone have a better number than the standard 888-926-1038 for mobile service?Thanks in advance

800-472-1039.....I don't know who told you that they did away with the RV division, but they have always answered my calls and know what an RV is. This number is NOT transferred overseas when they close the office, it is just not answered. You will always get a person whose 1st language is English.

Your local stations are only available out to a 100-200 range. Beyond that, no dice.If you want to get the local stations where you currently are camped, then call DISH and ask them to change your "Service Address". You'll need to provide DISH with a local address, campground, etc. Note that this is not your "Billing Address" -- that won't change.Changing your DISH Service Address is free.If you want to ALWAYS have access to the major networks, then you can sign up for Distant Network Service through All American Direct. You can get CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX for both San Francisco and New York for about $15/month. These will only be SD (Standard Definition), not HD stations.

The range can be vastly larger than 100-200 miles but the facts are, the reception of local Network programming is limited unless you select NY or LA as your "home" location.

Use 1 (800) 333-3474. It is the number you will find if you go to the menu screen and click on help or assistance or something like that. Don't remember the exact term. One phone call to one person and just a couple minutes. Just tell them you are in your RV and need to change your service address and that your billing address does not change. If you know the exact address that is good. If not just give them something seeming valid such as 100 hwy 123, Town, State.. They will change your programming and in about 5 minutes you will have the nearest local network channels to your current location.DFW is our local area. We were in southern Colorado last week. Called and told the person I needed to change my service address to 1000 W Hwy 160 South Fork, CO. In a few minutes I had all network channels coming from Denver. Have done it many times, one call, a few minutes, and get nearest locals no matter where we are.

Thanks for all the tips. My problem in the past has been changing service address without changing billing address, most of the customer service reps don't understand what I am trying to do. What I think I may try next time is just add the "All American Direct" programming when I activate my receiver (I deactivate the rv receiver when I am at home). I think you can pay partial months so the $15 wouldn't really matter. I hope by doing it that way my DVR at home would still record all of our programs while we are on the road.

If I need that info I just crank up my OTA TV antenna. I guess I just really like being a "time shifter". Saturday Night Live comes on at 8:30. I like knowing what channel is what every day and I like not having to reset every signal network timer on my Genie at each new location.
I watch the local and National news from 5 to 6 with my OTA antenna and then return to satellite. I rarely watch anything live so I might watch last nights TV, a movie or something that recorded in the previous hour.

I may be in the minority, but I prefer to get the local affiliates as opposed to NY or LA. In truth, I would rather hear the local farm report than the latest bad news from NY or LA.:p But, that's just me . . . :R I also like to have the local weather reports instead of relying on the Weather Channel.

You would want NYC locals because you'll get more channels in NYC than most Florida local markets and the NYC stations have more resources than the Florida stations. For example, there could be more sports, culture or foreign language programming on NYC stations not to mention more PBS stations. Perhaps you are a sports fan and the NY or LA markets aren't blacking out a game you want to watch.

Maybe you want one list of station numbers to memorize and not a different lineup every time you change cities. Maybe you don't really care about the particular local market you happen to be in because you use the internet for your weather forecasts and all you want is the major networks that are only available on the local channels.

Maybe your spouse or travel companions like to watch in-motion satellite and doesn't want the signal to cut out as you cross virtual borders. And, most importantly, maybe you'd want NYC locals because you really don't want to have a 5 minute chat session with Dish CS every time you change cities and your only other choice is to get locals for NYC or LA.

Ignore anything about a mobile DTV account. There's really no such thing. You do need to fill out and send in the DNS waiver along with a copy of your vehicle registration.
You will get the NY feed if your RV is registered in the Central or Eastern time zone and you will get the LA feed if your RV is registered in the Mountain or Pacific time zone. The fee is $15/month. Many users have been able to get both coasts activated (I have them both but I was grandfathered in when they made the change) for $20/month.

What I am doing is getting DNS! I love being a DirecTV customer.
Dish customers must call and have the service location changed if they travel far enough to lose the previous spot beam.

There mite be those areas, My main goal is to get the major channels to continue to watch the shows I would normally watch. Some the times are different, but that don't mater to me. I found the on line chat to work better for me at this time. Bill you had a excellent tip on set up of a new receiver and dish combo.
safe trails, We work camp and some times the traveler 1000 will be blocked by mountains or trees, the I use mt stand by dish. I need to purchase the droid app to help with set up. I ran 3 cables to ladder rack and installed coax ends and swithch between roof top cables with a A-B switch. Saves climbing to roof to change.

I don't know if it is still the case, but yes, there are/were places in the Country where subscribers only choice was the DNS Networks. There are also areas where the "local" programming is not truly local but somewhere nearby such as receiving Denver when you are actually in New Mexico so you would not see the local programming that you would if you crank up your over the air antenna.
