We have Dish and we have basic channels. We compared packages for the others and decided Dish was for us. Others may want other channels (like sports) that Dish may not offer. As for the "basic" channels....if you're referring to locals (ABC, CBS, etc)...when we first moved to our home base, we couldn't get them on Dish or Direct. Eventually, Direct got them and then Dish a year later......getting the locals is strictly the contracts with the local stations....you can't say "Dish provides them" or "Dish doesn't provide them"......it's all according to where you live.
