Just to confirm what Pack said, it's usually obvious which way north is, but it often isn't obvious just where the satellites are hiding. In fact they are spread out in an array to the SE of those of us on the west coast, and they have a knack for hiding behind trees.
Bottom line, I'm often surprised to find where I CAN get reception, and where I can't.
well the one I want is 129 so hopefully I can get it at the RV park iam at - greenrvgreenExplorerJust to confirm what Pack said, it's usually obvious which way north is, but it often isn't obvious just where the satellites are hiding. It does indeed find them automatically. You must start out by pointing the cable connections 'north' first but that's all you do. But it does need to have a clear view of the satellites and that's where the app comes in. You can't set it down behind trees, etc. The app shows you where the clear view of the sats is. It is very handy. I just walk around my rig until I can see one set of satellites clearly, then set the X2 in that spot and point it north. Plug in and let it do it's thing.
ahh now that makes sense to me. great idea. - GoPackGoExplorerIt does indeed find them automatically. You must start out by pointing the cable connections 'north' first but that's all you do. I also have the Winegard Pathway X2. Got mine on Amazon. A few hints -
1. When first setting up, run the cable directly from the antenna, through a window and then connect to the receiver box. Do not connect to your RV 'sat in' connection as there may be switches, etc between that connection and the receiver box. After setting up for the first time, try going to the 'sat in' connection and see if it still works OK.
2. I strongly suggest getting the dedicated tripod for the X2. The manual states that more then 2 inches of water could damage the electronics. That has happened to me at least twice - the tripod saved me.
3. I have the DISHFORMYRV app on my Iphone. $10 and works great. It will show where both sets of satellites are located when you use your phone in camera mode and hold it up to the sky. This will allow you to place the antenna in a location with the best access to them.
I thought the X2 was finding satellites automatically? or are you just using the phone deal as a compass? - usersmanualExplorer

Congratulations! You have a great antenna. However, many folks have great expectations about how this antenna works with 2 Dish receivers. IF (big IF) you can point the antenna to the 72.7 satellite then both receivers can watch any channels at any time. However, there is NO Network TV programming available on the 72.7 satellite so you can't watch ABC, NBC, CBC, FOX, CW and in most cases PBS while pointed to 72.7. Additionally, 72.7 is so far East that it's not a usable option if you travel in much of the Western US.
If you choose not to go the 72.7 route then both receivers will still work "as long as" the 2 channels happen to be coming from the same satellite. Dish uses 3 satellites to broadcast all of their programming (nearly all HD is on the 129) and the dome style antennas can only point at 1 at a time. If 1 users wants to watch a channel being broadcast from 110 and 1 user wants to watch something coming from 129 the 2nd receiver will fail.
thanks Bill we are in western us and Iam totally aware that both receivers will only get channels from one satellite at a time
losts of channels on 110 119 129 - Bill_SatelliteExplorer II

just have to buy one extra receiver cause we want two and it only came with one - Dutch_12078Explorer IIWe use a Dish 1000.4 triple LNB dish mounted on a portable tripod with a Dish Hopper w/Sling receiver and Joey secondary receiver in our motorhome. We have another Hopper w/Sling and Joey installed at our upstate NY cottage connected to a pole mounted 1000.4 dish. When we're parked at the cottage, the coach satellite system is also connected to the permanent dish. Our portable dish can be equipped for either the eastern or western arc satellites as needed for reception through trees, etc, and rarely takes longer than 15 minutes to set up and aim. We change our service address as often as daily when traveling to get the area locals. It takes about 5 minutes using the Dish chat system. Since we travel nearly full time now, we no longer stop the service between trips, but when we did, as said, it was as simple as not paying the next bill.
