DishTV 211z receiver.

I am thinking of changing from Direct TV to Dish TV.

I understand that a hard drive can be added to the 211z receiver to allow it to function as a DVR. I know that I would have to have Dish TV activate the receiver to function as a DVR.

My question is: What are the steps for recording a program? And, when you want to watch a recorded program, is there a list displayed to pick from?

by adding a hard drive is this put into the 211 it self or just stand alone? if stand alone, can't see how setting it is that easy. if installed into the 211 can you just order one with it already installed.

Stand alone. It need to have its own 110v power source. The hard drive plugs in with usb.

Dish software is based on REPLAY TV which I know well.

To record: Go to program guide and press the red-dot button

Or press Select and choose "Record"

To record a daily or weekly show....

Press Red Dot twice or select and choose record

When you select and choose you can choose to
    Record ONLY this show
    Record ONLY First run shows
    Record First Run and Repeats.

IT has been a bit since I did a Dish unit (About 18 months) but on my Replays I can also set up theme channels.. For example I tell it to "Record all shows, any channel, any time with a title containing "CSI"

    CSI: (original series)
    CSI NY
    CSI Miama

All get recorded. Caution when using this on dish.. Several networks do show-a-thons all the time.. For example 10 hours of NCIS a day or BONES or ,,well, CSI.
  • To record you just select the program in the program guide and press the record button on the remote.
To watch recorded programs press the Dish On Demand button on the remote and select from the recorded programs list.
Since it is a single receiver box you can't watch one program and simultaneously record another for the same time slot.
