It would be better for everyone if this park owner installed software on his end to disconnect after a pre-determined period of time.
Welcome back.
2oldman..
I guess YOU have never experienced AOL dialup back in the day?
You would often get disconnected due to high traffic after 2 PM to midnight.. Would often take several hrs an evening to connect long enough to read one email with text only.. Emails with pictures.. never happened.. and surfing the net was a luxury if you managed to get 10 minutes without the dreaded "goodbye" disconnect sound :S
Folks, just turn off the PC when done.
Win7 and Win8 boot fast from cold start so there is ZERO reasons to leave it on all the time..
Additionally when the PC is on it is continually polling for software updates which creates a lot of unneeded network traffic.
WiFi by its nature IS a "limited" resource, please be kind to other campers and not hog it. - Sprink-FitterExplorerI'll just repeat the answer like the others do here.
It depends on your settings, it shouldn't use wifi when shut. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIDepending on the laptop and power settings
Yes
no
perhaps
I would go with NO for the most common settings.
Turning it OFF, Completly OFF, is the only way to be sure.
In the case of Windows 8.1 that means restart it to make sure everything is closed, then when you get the log in screen, sit on the power button till it goes dark. - TurnThePageExplorerYou've gotten several correct answers. YOU have complete control of what closing the lid does. By default, Microsoft sets windows to go to sleep when you close the lid or hit the power button, which should suspend any activities like that. The control options are very granular on most systems. You can select weather video, usb, network, etc stay active. Do yourself and your laptop battery a favor and set it to shut it down.

Welcome back. - 1492ModeratorIf you're on battery power, and you LT goes into sleep mode, it should disconnect the WiFi to conserve power.

- magicbusExplorer IIAs others have said... It depends on your settings. I have multiple monitors plugged into my laptop so the lid is always "almost closed". When the cat walks on it and closes it all of my encrypted work sessions go away and if I am on my google voice phone it drops because my wifi turns off.
But thanks for asking this question. I just changed my power settings so when it is plugged in and the lid closes nothing happens. Dave 1 - Cat 0 (this time).
on Win 7: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\System Settings
