Download/Install Android apps

I have an older Droid phone.Lately,when I try to download and install a new app,it just keeps on and on in the install mode,over an hour,then I give up.
Any ideas what could be the problem?
I have installed several apps in the past with no problems.
Should I just give up and get a new phone?

    Your wi-fi network is slllllloooooooowwwwwwww.

    I guess you could try to power the phone down, pop the back off and remove the battery. let it sit for at least 30 seconds, reinstall the battery and back and power it back up. At least its worth a shot and is free.
