Downsizing a pic on IPad

One of the forums I frequent requires me to downsize the pic I wish to use in my profile. I want to use a pic from the pics on the iPad Aire II. It is about 1 meg but needs to be resized to about .1 meg. How to do?

  • Thanks to all for the great suggestions and kind offers. The email tip worked. Thx again!

Since I will likely not have a need for this again, learning yet another app was not appealing.
  • According to Google: https://www.google.com/search?q=resize+pictures+on+ipad+app&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1

Download the app called Image Size.

Launch Image Size from your Home screen.
Tap the Image Icon in the upper right corner. ...
Tap the image you would like to resize.
Tap Choose in the lower right corner.
Select your image resize option at the top of the page

I interpret your post as to wanting to change the file size not the image size. That is done be changing the file compression. I don't think there is a built-in way to do that on an iOS device. If you have a Mac computer, you can do that on using the Preview app that comes with every Mac computer.

Changing the actual size of the picture will reduce the file size, along with the picture size. You can get a picture editing app from the App store to resize a picture. Hard to believe that Apple hasn't put that ability in the Photos app. There is a round-about way to do it by mailing the picture to yourself!

From the Photos app, select the picture you want to resize and tap on the share option. Choose mail and use your own email address. Tap on Send and select one of the resize options. Note these change the image size which, as a byproduct, change the file size. Small is 320 by 240, too small as far as I'm concerned, but may be the only one that will get the file size small enough for you. Medium is 640 by 480.

If none of that is going to work for you, send me a private message and I'll give you an email address. email the picture to me and I'll resize it and send it back.

By the way, most forum profile pages restrict both file size and image size. For example, this forum restricts profile picture to no more than 640 by 480 image size and no more than 100KB file size.

  • FYI
    what ever you do
    always keep the original image/picture

save any resized/modified image with a NEW DIFFERENT file name

if the new one is to large or somehow not right

you can start again from the original image
  • When you email it the app lets you resize before you send it so mail it to yourself if all else fails.
