Downsizing

If it's everything you wanted, keep it.

You'll lose a lot of money downsizing. If it meets your needs, then keep it. If there were other reasons it does not meet your needs, then consider downsizing.

I know Mfan. I said that to my hubby also. If it is everything we wanted and now got it, why ditch it? but it just sits there mostly and it breaks my heart our time is limited on using it. I guess that is what got us thinking of downsizing.

ah, the options are weighing heavy on our minds.

we were saying the same thing.

no other reason to trade it other than it just sits there and drives us crazy we can't use it more.

our minds are just flip flopping around on this decision.

kind of saying---this big beautiful great toyhauler not being used drives us mad----if we downsize we don't care if it just sits next to the house :) probably NOT a good way to think of this :)

But will you truly not care? Wasted potential is wasted potential. A small trailer will rot as quickly as a large trailer. If you see a financial burden by keeping it, then get rid of it. If not, keep it. But, having been there, my vote is to get something smaller since having the big boy seems to be adding stress to your lives.

What makes you think you would get more use out of a smaller rig? Have you run the $$ for selling what you have and buying what you think you want?

Back in 2010, we bought a 31' bunkhouse. We have one child at home and figured she would bring friends. So we thought we needed the bunkhouse to give her, here own space and space for friends. In the 3 years we had it, no friends came with us. We traded it in on a Class C motorhome. 31' model. But better use of space. And plus more convienent and easier to drive than tow the big trailer.

Agreed..plus if you can downsize and will be happy with it, it will allow you more portential camping sites. I'm all about as far as going as big as the smallest you can stand. It's no secret that the smaller the unit, the easier it is to deal with (driving, towing, setting up, places to take it). But you have to weigh that with what is more important to you, that or do you need more space to be comfortable? Personally, I don't need a lot of room. When I open that door, I have all the room in the world that I want. That is after all, why we go camping. You will have to do some soul searching. Look at where you go camping or have gone camping. Did you enjoy the way you did it? Would you change it? Don't make a decision on what you think you might would do, but do it based on what you already know. Of course over time, your style of camping will change.

We traded down but up. Had a brand new 38' Coachmen that had everything we wanted but we like to move around a lot when we are on the road and found it a hassle to set up and close up every couple of days - plus I am not a truck driver and found that a lot of places we wanted to visit were pretty tight to maneuver. It was the perfect 5th wheel to park for the Summer beside a lake and visit it on weekends but not what we really needed for what we wanted to do. So we traded it "up" to a 32' Excel with 3 slides, the same amenities and better quality. 6' did make a lot of difference for us. This is finally "the one" and we love it. It all boils down to what you want and would be happiest with.

May not be entirely about money. But depending on what they downsize to, I would imagine there could be some significant savings. Could be a $70k toyhauler and could go to a $20k TT. Significant amount of savings...
