Email Issues - Just looking for ideas..

I have been using the Windows "Thunderbird" email program for many years now and the DW is now comfortable with it. Within the last several weeks, our primary Email Account has been flooded with scam emails and after checking the address on each one, if spam I label it as trash. All of these emails contain xxxxx@gmail.com address as where they came from. This particular mailbox address is one that is used for other legitimate emails, but the number of SPAM/TRASH emails received is getting bigger each day. Thunderbird won't let you block a domain like gmail.com but something has to be done. any suggestions / ideas. I don't want to use another email program as the training period for the DW would be beyond my patience and to delete this particular email box and use another one would take forever to notify those who correspond with us using it.. Maybe the answer is to just open a cold beer in the afternoon and instead of "Happy Hour", call it "Trash Cleaning Hour"..

So have I !! I could not live with out it !!!

I use Thunderbird in IMAP mode which means the INBOX is still in Gmail and so are all of your folders unless you have made them local (Hint : make a Local DRAFT folder and tell Thunderbird to use it !)

Block it in Gmail ! It does the filtering first before it gets to Thunderbird. I have Gmail filter some email into folders and it works fine !

What if legitimate emails come from a gmail account?

To the OP, why not just get a gmail account? It's free and they are pretty good about weeding out spam. Apparently Thunderbird doesn't have much in the way of spam filters, so just get an email account with one that does. Gmail "training period" would take about 5 minutes.
  • Long shot but try. *.*@gmail.com as your filter mail to trash.
*.* is part of an old dos command.
  • we use 7 or 8 g-mail addresses. as of may 30th G-Mail is implimenting additional security features which may render T-Bird useless. i use an older version of Outlook (OL2010) which will not be useable. newer versions of OL will work but i’m not interested in upgrading. i’ve been wanting to get our own domain and e-mail for a while now. this g-mail change was the incentive needed to do that.

    Security Changes to G-Mail
