- obgrahamExplorerDinosaur here, and proud of it.
When I agree with the flip-phone crowd (well mine doesn't flip, but it is dumb and is hardly ever "on".) why do all you "eyes glued to the phone" set think I don't use all the services of the internet?
Every single function you all have described on this thread is available to me on my laptop or desktop computer, and I use them every day for hours. I prefer my 23 inch screen to the piddly thing on a smartphone.
When I watch my kids messing with their phones and they show me the latest and greatest "app", it's clear to me that the phone will do a whole bunch of things, but most all of them are not done as well as the gadget designed for the task.
So yes, I use a Camera, a GPS at times, a Kindle, and my Laptop/Desktop. And also a watch, and a map.

That's the thing about new technology, nobody thinks they need a new gadget until they get one.
For me it's not a matter of resisting giving up a flip phone, but rather not having a need for a smart phone!

Nah, I think I'll stick to my dumb phone and spend my money on fuel.
Why do you think it has to be phone or fuel? Hubby and I spend about $130/month on our unlimited data smart phones. Among other things, we use them to stream video for movies or tv shows we want to watch. We do not have cable or satellite TV, and I think the price is comparable.
The ones in favor of the dumb phones are ones who have never gotten used to having the entire world of information in their handbag. When we're going down the road and see something interesting, I can Google for more information before we reach the exit. ;)
When hubby gets tired and says find a place to park, I can check RV Park Reviews, Passport America and Overnight RV Parking from the road.
What's that gun owners say about cold dead fingers? At least mine will be well manicures. :C
I've got three kids, and four grandkids, all with smartphones. At family gatherings they all sit there with their phones in their hands constantly checking to see if they have gotten texts, messages, or if someone has just posted to their FB page. Yeah, that's a whole "world of information" there. And they love to access those stupid YouTube videos, usually of someone doing something abysmally ignorant. Or some really "cute cat videos". Gosh, I'm giving up all this by not having a smart phone.
Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I was out traveling and wished that I had internet access so I could look up some information on that last thing we just passed. If I'm really interested, I usually know it in advance, or if it's piques my interest enough I'll check up on it when we stop for the night. No biggie.
They have their uses, just not enough to justify the price tag.
That's ok, everyone has different ideas of what they need. :) I wouldn't waste my money on Direct TV but I know people who say they can't live without it.
Those who love their flip phones, great! More bandwidth for me. ;) - fj12ryderExplorer III

Don't need a special "holster" for it - I can just shove it in a pocket or bag. Never butt dialed anyone - ever. Yet can still search the internet, check weather, etc.

they are again popluar - 3oaksExplorerFlip phone is good enough for me. Never even use it accept while traveling. I only want it to make or receive calls in an emergency. I, don't require a whole world of information at my finger tips. People are so gullible and get suckered into "today's marketing gimmicks". If I have need for a computer, I use my laptop. After all I survived a good long time without either. I don't feel the need to impress other people by owning the latest and greatest electronics. Now in the business community and corporate world, smart phones really have a place.

Changing phones is no different and is cheaper than changing cars, trucks, RVs
Nobody forces you too change vehicles
And nobody forces somebody to change phones
Updates are software...No Charge
Upgrade means new model...No need if yours does what you want
But faster CPUs larger brighter displays bring new features..
Some people want the newest and best
My phone is almost three model years old
Anything bigger will not fit in my pocket
But I would enjoy having a phone that uses the newest XLTE data technology - bob213ExplorerFlip phone works great for my needs. I used 7 minutes last month. That was getting directions from wife while backing into a camp space or storage. I may carry it with me but it's off. If I want to make a call I turn it on. Other than that, I don't want to talk on the phone.
