- FlatBrokeExplorer IIWent to a smart phone because Tracfone gives triple minutes with it. It would be DUMB not to take avatage of that. Well, I sorta still use it as a dummie cause I turn off my data.
However a $10-$15 phone bill is kinda smart compared to a $85 bill.
Oh, I now use an iPhone on Tracfone like the real smart guys. LOL - mockturtleExplorer IIBetween my 'dumb' phone, my laptop, my Verizon 4G LTE Jetpack and my GPS, I have everything I need. For a LOT less than $130/month! :)
- Johno02ExplorerBecause I am a big OLD dinoasar! And proud of it!

Really.. how does one manage to get unlimited data, on a newer phone, that is not throttled, and has good coverage?
How did you get unlimited data? I thought only grandfathers had that. :)
Something is missing. - hawkeye-08Explorer IIII was one of the flip phone diehards until this last May when I needed to work a trade show for a week. I have a bad back and did not want to carry my laptop around all day (too far to go back to hotel room and no where to secure laptop on show floor). My wife and daughter convinced me to get smartphone so that I could respond to my work emails without having to pack my laptop. It worked out and now when I am working away from my desk, I don't feel I have to even take my laptop most of the time, I can handle the work on my phone. It gives me freedom to keep up on my work when I need to without forcing me to pack laptop around.
We have enough data on the mobile share that I can use my phone as hotspot if needed for the occasions when I need to use my laptop and recently it has also worked well when the internet was down at the house.. - pasusanExplorer

Nah, I think I'll stick to my dumb phone and spend my money on fuel.
Why do you think it has to be phone or fuel? Hubby and I spend about $130/month on our unlimited data smart phones. Among other things, we use them to stream video for movies or tv shows we want to watch. We do not have cable or satellite TV, and I think the price is comparable.
The ones in favor of the dumb phones are ones who have never gotten used to having the entire world of information in their handbag. When we're going down the road and see something interesting, I can Google for more information before we reach the exit. ;)
When hubby gets tired and says find a place to park, I can check RV Park Reviews, Passport America and Overnight RV Parking from the road.
What's that gun owners say about cold dead fingers? At least mine will be well manicures. :C - And to think.. I used to say that THERE WAS NO WAY I WOULD PAY TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO.... several years later and several Sirius XM subscriptions later..! :B
But I did figure out one thing with the help of my kids,... having a Smart phone does not make ME any smarter :h
I would not travel without my I phone or the whatever smart phone.. TOO much info at our finger tips if and when needed.. - 2oldmanExplorer II

They're definitely not made with old eyes in mind.
I just can't see using a phone with a screen sooo small that you need a magnifying glass to surf the net. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerWe finally caved and got a smartphone. We were among those holding onto our old flip phone. I love the smartphone. DH not so much! He cares nothing about all the things a smart phone can do. I also purchased the Copilot App and love that. Don't have to have cell service to use it as a GPS. Has an RV setting.
I can use the smartphone with my Wilson Sleek booster. - rockhillmanorExplorer III just can't see using a phone with a screen sooo small that you need a magnifying glass to surf the net.
Yet Apple HAS convinced everyone that they do AND charge 600 bucks for the pleasure of trying to do so...on their phone! :B
Sorry that's what a laptop is for and for a whole lot less $$.
In what universe does anyone need to be viewing the internet while walking down the street? Because that is what you are paying for in an iPhone.
Economy in the tank, no one saving for their retirement and today's generation is mind sucked into paying 600 bucks for a phone And buying yet another new improved one that doesn't do anything noticeably different 2 months later.
Just saying.
