Foxfi and PDAnet stopped working. Is it Samsung, or ATT?

Full unlocked version of Foxfi has worked all last year, and I didn't try using it this year until a few months ago. It no longer works, even though I can enable it via the check box. I know there has been some sort of 4.x update; don't know if that was Samsung or AT&T wireless provider).

The phone is a Galaxy S3; AT&T Old Nation plan with rollover minutes, and 2gb data. When I was able to use Foxfi on trips, I never came close to running over the 2gb, but I suppose even if I did, ATT would be pleased, as I would have been billed for the overage.

Read something about AT&T setting a flag in the phone op-sys, to prevent wifi hotspot and tethering, but 'rooting' can return the phone to "native" wifi, whatever that means.

But I also read that the prob is the software update, and I am wondering if I can roll back to the previous version? Someone said to buy a mifi from ebay, and plug my sim-card into it when I want wifi. Anyone know if this works?

Oh, one more thing; AT&T will not let me have their wifi hotspot option unless I get on a 5bg data plan, which is another $30/mo. I don't need all that.
  • MrWiz... thanks for your question. Yes, I did in fact download and install PCDnet a few days ago, from the goog play store. The install went without a hitch, until it came time to connect. At that time, I got the same att message to contact 611 customer service, and the app terminated. It then uninstalled the laptop side of the app, and closed.

I have only tried it once this evening, after downloading the laptop side, with tether connected. It finished, loaded, and connected perfectly, and the speed was good, as various website pages loaded quickly.
