Gdetrailer. You are correct. I also have OTA for a few local TV stations and can also stream many local TV stations from all across the USA for free using many news apps on my Roku and Fire Stick plus Vizio TV devices. I also have Xumo app on my devices and can also view all these apps on my laptop and cell phone.

Soon USA might be like Canada with restrictions on streaming apps I hope not.

I am not a fan of VPNs, paid or free so I don't blame you on that, just adds more hassle to the mix and well, the paid ones are more expense..

Just tossing that option out there since the idea of a VPN is to make your location IPs look "anonymous" by transposing your IP to a completely different IP that is outside your country..

I'd be uncomfortable using a vpn to circumvent the restrictions.

Oh, yeah, another gotcha with streaming, boarder wars preventing folks from one country being able to get content from another country.. Sort of like the DVD player "regions" restrictions..

This IS were a "VPN" might get around those restrictions but keep in mind, a lot of streaming services HAVE figured this out and it may or may not work.

Actually, you do not need streaming if you have access to a few OTA channels which had additional content on their "subchannels".

"Me" TV, Cozy, Antenna TV, Grit, Start TV, DABL, LAFF, Revin', Action, The Family Channel, ION, ION Plus, Heroes & Icons (H&I), Comet, Bounce, Charge and more channels all are handling old movie and TV show content.

Plenty of old content still being run for free on OTA and some of those channels are on Dish so it is possible to get a lot of old content with out Dish OR streaming but you do have to at least have some sort of TV antenna and reasonably good reception..

Most of those channels have a website to check the programming schedule if you do some digging..

On edit, also wanted to mention for OTA stuff, you can buy OTA tuners which act as a "DVR" using a USB flash drive.. That allows you to schedule record programming for OTA and playback when you can watch it.

I agree with your last post Gdetrailer and I am enjoying all this free streaming stuff while it last. I love all the old classic movies and westerns. As backup I have hundreds of DVDs of all my favorite movies, TV shows and westerns and some are no longer available on DVD unless one pays a steep price. All is good. Cheers and Happy Trails.

The problem with all of the "free" services is they WILL ALL eventually go away in one way or the other.

What is happening now is the well established content providers have been very quietly buying up all of the "libraries" of content and making that content available exclusively on their streaming platform.

What you are going to see happen is those little free providers will be squeezed out of business because they no longer have better content available or they may be relegated to extremely old content that is "public domain"..

With the Public domain material, you will have to wait a 100 yrs or more to see newer content..

You may even find some of those little streaming outfits using bootleg video which could even be a copy of a VHS captured off the air, copied multiple times then converted to digital..

Pretty much all TV and movie material is still under some form of copy right even movies from the 1930s can still be under copy right..

Best thing I can tell you is to try a few of the free services you found to see if they will stream at your capped speed, see if they have any material you want to watch and see if the quality is acceptable to you..

Heck, I have a Cousin that is perfectly fine watching 1950s-1960s reruns on PBS stations and on some of the old rerun sub channels (like ME TV)the OTA broadcasters carries..

But if you are looking for new material to watch, you are most likely going to have to pony up for the big streamers (like Apple TV) as they have the money to buy out huge vast libraries of content..

By the way.. In days of old I'd download videos from You Tube because streaming them.. Well that too too much bandwidth.. But YT put a stop to that.. or did they?

Last month or was it the month before I again downloaded a short (Teaser) video from You Tube. I did it as a Proof of concept.. sadly I learned how to do it. 2 days late.
