Garmin BC30 Camera Install

I'll be installing a Garmin BC30 camera on my RV. With reference to installing the transmitter for the camera, the install directions say "The transmitter provides the best signal when either flat surface is pointing toward the receiver". There is a drawing of the transmitter attempting to illustrate this, but to me the drawing is ambiguous. The transmitter has a flat back and four flat sides; the drawing illustrates (sort of) that there are only two preferred directions.

Anybody know which flat surface the directions are referring to? Here are the install directions: BC 30 Install Directions

  • I had a BC 20 on my previous truck, which is very similar and may actually use the same transmitter. To help you visualize, if you were to lay the transmitter flat on its back on a table, the best transmission direction would be straight up. Hope that helps.
  • I visualize it like one of those "new magic Hdef" set top tv aerials. a larger version of the transmitter, two large flat sides and the edges.

  • Bumpy, thanks for answering. I'm still not sure, so I e-mailed Garmin. Their answer referred me to materials I have already read and videos I have already watched. I asked them to clarify further for me, but have not heard anything back yet.
  • in the diagram that the transmitter is #2 it has two main flat sides, front and back, with a small space between them with 4 other slides which are not what you want to aim.
sort of like a car door opener. if you hold it flat towards the car it sometimes is reluctant to open, but if you aim the flat side towards the car it works fine, due to the antenna being a basic wire loop.
