Garmin BC 20 backup camera install?

Need info on installing Garmin BC 20 backup camera. If you have done this I need to know about placing and wiring the camera and transmitter.

  • I used the 12v DC from the running lights as I wanted to be able to use the camera at times in addition to when I am backing up. The transmitter is buried inside the vehicle frame. I had no trouble getting the signal to go the 22 feet from the transmitter to the Garmin GPS and its receiver.

The longer the wires are with the transmitter the more they function like an antenna and are subject to RF interference.

I went with the Garmin to get the better GPS. Alternative systems and boosters for video are available from www.tadibrother.com. Another is cubbycam.com.
  • I thank you for the come back. I have the 760. Now to install it. Plan on testing it all in position before permanent install.

That would be helpful. 33' 5th wheel.

By the way, that is a sweet set-up when coupled with the Garmin RV 760LMT.

Transmitter has max 45'range. Experiment with camera location on the back to suit your needs prior to permanent install. Transmitter can probably be mounted inside the tail light assembly or inside the coach somewhere. Access the tail light assembly on the 5'er for power. If you are wanting to view behind the rig while in transit connect the power lead to "running lights" circuit at rear of 5'er & drive with them on, or tap a constant 12 voltsource from inside the coach. If not, the "back-up lights" circuit for viewing, only when backing up. If reception (wireless interference) occurs, move the transmitter closer to the front. You may need to cut & splice, for more cable length or check with Garmin & see if there is an extra length cable available.

    Installing on what ?

Wireless systems, as this one, are pretty much basic installs & all the same.

Transmitter power supply can connect to your "back-up" lights, or "running lights" depending upon what you want to do.
