I used the 12v DC from the running lights as I wanted to be able to use the camera at times in addition to when I am backing up. The transmitter is buried inside the vehicle frame. I had no trouble getting the signal to go the 22 feet from the transmitter to the Garmin GPS and its receiver.
The longer the wires are with the transmitter the more they function like an antenna and are subject to RF interference.
I went with the Garmin to get the better GPS. Alternative systems and boosters for video are available from www.tadibrother.com. Another is cubbycam.com.
