Garmin got stubborn

Could simply be the location on the map that confuses it. I have an 11 year old Garmin that has performed great, except for getting around Atlanta. It oftens gets it's left & right confused, clear obvious mistakes that keeps us on our toes.

my older/cheaper garmins did try to recalculate every little bit, wanting me to flip a U turn, etc. More recent models/software quickly learns I don't want to go their way and will re-plot a sensible route.

I think it's a matter of time before mine develops an attitude (like Betty the white zone lady). She keeps trying to make me flip U-turns when I don't follow her instructions. She keeps her cool though and eventually we see eye to eye. She doesn't hold any grudges. What a nice lady. Having said all that, I still think Garmin has the best product out there. Having the lifetime maps option is very nice and if it ever fails they give me a good deal on an upgrade. You might call them and inquire. They will work with you.

I don't know the details of your unit. but my Garmin 660 allows tuning of the route. At the simplest it's e.g. FASTEST, SHORTEST, SCENIC or some such thing. On my Garmin you can tell it to avoid toll roads, ferries, U-turns, etc etc. You may have something in your configuration that's forcing your route 'off track". Your current performance sounds very much like the "NAV" system in my Chev which is totally useless.

I always have my Garmin in the truck as well. The only silly thing it does is often it tries to make me exit an expressway then immediately get back on. Through Toronto it will try that at least 10 times.

I bought a new Garmin RV 760 a short time back and I find it the most user unfriendly GPS ever. All I ever ask of it is to take me from point A to point B the fastest way. Sometimes it wants to take me on a route I do not want and it's nearly impossible to make a quick/easy change to the route. My old TomTom was so much easier to use, but lacked a few features the new Garmin had. I think when I get home I'll test out one of the new TomTom units that has more features than my old one.

That's odd because Albuquerque has no bypass routes like in large cities, only the freeway and the surface streets.

for the most part I really like my Garmin Nuvi but on occasion it gets a wild hare and does some dumb stuff. What I really hate is when I check the route that it shows, approve of its choices but then midstream it changes its mind and wants to do things like you describe. Irritating at best, but can be downright dangerous when pulling a rig. That being said, I am going to stick with the Garmin.

I don't trust my newest Garmin and I have owned several. I have to double check with another map if I want to take a different route. And twice it has shown a road that was not there.

One time at work, a new employee heard me say "and don't call me Shirley!" She immediately called her husband to tell him that she had actually heard one of the Pharmacists say that.

I remember our Garmin once trying to sent us straight up the side of a mountain in the middle of nowhere (Nevada) that would have been a challenge in our Jeep.
