Garmin got stubborn

Have a Garmin 50LM, cause I'm a tight @$$. It took me an a route around Albuquerque that was pretty good, missed all the big city mess. Coming home it would not take me that way. I went the route anyway. Most of the time it recalibrates and send me on my way. Darn thing for about 30 miles tried to redirect me back at least a dozen times down every dirt road I came to. Even when I completed the short cut it tried to send me back to Albuquerque to start back over. This type of ordeal has happend before but not to this extent. Needless to say I'm looking for something better now. Suggestions?
  • my older/cheaper garmins did try to recalculate every little bit, wanting me to flip a U turn, etc. More recent models/software quickly learns I don't want to go their way and will re-plot a sensible route.

  • Could simply be the location on the map that confuses it. I have an 11 year old Garmin that has performed great, except for getting around Atlanta. It oftens gets it's left & right confused, clear obvious mistakes that keeps us on our toes.
