Garmin Nuvi 2597 issues, Help!!!

Hi to all,
I noticed that my Garmin Nuvi 2597 is giving me issues.
It should be showing me the speed at which I am traveling is very inconsistent, such as maybe 67mph then within a few seconds 35mph then 52mph. Sometimes when stopped and not moving for a few minutes it may read a speed of 9.5 or 3.6, sometimes it is correct and reads 0.0.
Does this GPS need to be reset, what can I do to remedy the problem?
Thank you
  • Turn off the Garmin. After it is shut down place your finger at the bottom RIGHT corner of the SCREEN. While holding your finger down press the power button. You will know you are successful when the unit asks if you want to erase all user data. Just follow the prompts.
  • X2 on Garmin Tech Support. It's the best. Have used it a few times and they always can resolve any issue within minutes. I'll never buy any other brand.
  • I agree, it may need to be rebooted, but I'm not familiar with that model, so can't help you. One thing to keep in mind is that even though you are sitting still, and have been for may 15 min. to hours, if the GPS is on, it's still receiving from the satellite, and as the signal strength varies it will "think" it's moving, as it gets varying signals from different satellites. You won't notice it on the MPH icon, but if you clear out the moving history, & speed & check it an hour later, it will look like you've been on a one hour drive.

I'd call Garmin in the morning & talk to them about it. There tech support people are great, & should be able to help you, at least they can tell you how to reboot it! Their tech support number is: 913-397-8200 toll-free: 1-800-800-1020
