Google Anomoly

I just purchased myself an new quad core 8 gig desktop computer, running Win 7 Home Premium, running off a wireless access point to the internet.

After a clean install of windows, I installed Firefox 25. I made Google.com my homepage. IE runs normally using the MSN Homepage.

When I open Firefox it hangs and gives me a time out message. I tried to access Google through Internet Explorer and I get the same response.

I've rebooted the Router to factory several times, tried running without a firewall, still no luck. I have removed cookies and history files.

I have contacted the ISP and they don't have any filters running that would cause this problem.

I'm really stumped on this one. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Update on my query

After many hours on the net searching and numerous reboots to the router, contact with the ISP, I did a new install, same problem.

I found that when I ran Google through another search engine that the address was shown as "encrypted.google.com. so I used that as my homepage, on both Firefox and Internet explorer and it now loads perfectly on both browsers.

An interim fix, but I'm still looking. Thanks for all the suggestions that were posted.

  • Sorry, misread that IE was not working with Google either? There are so many things that can cause a website or domain access issue that it may make more sense to get an idea of what you've already tried?
  • I would start with the wifi router... When you go to the router menu itself..usually somethign like http://192.168.0.1 and log in..does it get a connection to ther internet ?
Then check what dns your computer is using... I had it where it is using the ip of the wifi router but ii had to hardcode the actually dns the isp uses in for it to work.

  • Try creating a new Firefox profile to check whether its corrupt?

Press Windows Key+R and in RUN, type or copy and paste Firefox -p and ENTER.

Click the Create Profile.. button and follow prompts to create new test profile. You may also want to uncheck Don't ask at startup.. for now so you can easily get back to the Choose User Profile prompt when Firefox first starts.

Start Firefox with the new profile and check if Google is now working?
  • Sorry..... Forgot to mention, I have searched for hours, and tried every solution I could find, without any success.
