HD antenna

Digital (HD) signals travel through the air and are received the same way analog signals are. I did add a wingman (for better UHF) to my batwing but not sure it does anything. There is no substitute for being close to a transmitter.

According to their web site it is an omni-directional antenna.
Since it is non-directional it will have less gain than a directional one. I would ask him to install a new Winegard with the built in Wingman section.

HD doesn't change the signal
What did change was that many transmitters switched to UHF although the station still uses it original VHF ch# and call sign
Also with digital there is no such thing as a Weak Grainy picture
You have a picture or you have pixelated freeze
What works really well is an antenna with multiple UHF elements ganged together

Speaking of t/t antennas.........

The Jensen brand Omni direction that came with the unit is defective.

The mfg is replacing it with a digital rv tv antenna.

The model # is ca2500b

I purchased one of those flat style antenna's that I saw at Costco one day. Paid $30.00 for it with the intention of using it at my house on the back deck where I do not have a cable box. I took it on a camping trip and found that I was able to get 40 something channels when my batwing was coming up with only a few... Now it goes on any trip that we will not have cable hook-ups on..

Agreed. If you have a Batwing on the roof, use it. If you want a little better performance, add a Wingman

I can't believe there are still RV'ers out there that don't know that their RV batwing is all that it is needed.

I too get an average of 30 channels where ever I go with just the bat wing antenna. I full time so that's a lot of places and CG's! :C

I just bought some property in Florida. I am remodeling the place. Wanted to listen to some TV while working.

Sooooo, I ran the coax cable from the MH antenna to the TV INSIDE the house and getting all the channels all from the batwing!!

You don't need no stinking new fangled antenna these scammers are trying to sell ya! :B

We've talked about this to death on this forum, but I'm using the stock batwing antenna that came with my 2004 motorhome and get well over 30 HD channels in the DC area. You don't need a special HD antenna.

I also operate on 2 meters (Between TV channels six and 7) NO way am I getting that kind of range.. But on 2 meters one day I had a new (At the time) radio, it put out 1 watt in hand held mode into a very poor antenna, I'd say about a quarter watt effective radiated power. Well, I tuned around (it was the first tuneable handheld) and found a repeater in Adrian, MI (I was in Detroit) and some hams in Toledo OH chatting.. A Ham from Windsor (I could actually see his house from where I was standing) tried to join in and .. did not make it.. I was able to relay... He was running about 40 watts effective at 30 feet as I recall.. I'm running 1/4 watt hand held......250 feet up in a skyscraper's tower.

ANd the outside antenna is higher.


Finally... Though many stations did change frequency.. The new transmission freqauency is still in the old television band.. (Many VHF stations now transmit on UHF, but not all)

For example.. Chan 7 Detroit is, I believe using Chan 41.. Chan 2 Detroit is now using Chan 7 as their carrier frequency.

Chan 7 where I am for the winter.. Really is chan 7,, But Chan 4 is thirty something.

NOTE that the carrier frequency is one of the old channel frequencies, those did not change.. So the same VHF/UHF antenna that worked for ANALOG, still works for DIGITAL. The only major difference ....

IF I was designing today I would likely not include VHF-Low band (2-6) In my design, I'd design for 7 and above.. There are very few TV transmission on VHF-Low any more. (Still a few, but dang few)
