HDMI Audio ?

Does an HDMI cable carry audio?
I connected my Toshiba Laptop to a Vizio TV and have PC screen duplicated on the TV. But when playing a Video with music / audio,
I get no sound from the TV,only from the Laptop.
Whats wrong?

  • Thanks again, found the problem.
Went into: Control panel, Sound , "E370VT-1" , right click, Enable!
This turns Off my PC speakers and turns ON the TV speakers.
If no HDMI cable is plugged in, the PC speakers work.
What would I do without Y'all?
    Thanks,Siggy
  • Thank you all for the replys,I will check it out and let you know if I get it to work.

  • I just remembered something
Have you checked the audio settings on the vizio tv
Some tv's allow you to enable or disable different audio inputs

This is a common issue why HDMI audio doesn't play in videos on a computer. I would also check your PC audio settings.

    This.
Sometimes, the computer switches automatically. Sometimes, you need to select the TV speakers when in the audio settings. And sometimes, nothing works because your computer doesn't have the drivers needed for the TV speakers to work. If this happens, it may help to download generic tv speaker drivers.
  • You may have to get into the settings on the computer and enable the speakers on the screen.
  • Try this turn off both of them
Make sure TV is plugged into pc
Turn on tv and select the HDMI input
    TV will show no signal
    Now
Turn on pc and start your video
    Btw
What program are you using, I hardly ever use Windows player
    I use VLC Or. MPC-HT
I watch video on the TV from my pc
As stated above it could be in your audio device settings
  • Yes, HDMI does transfer audio. It's possible your laptop is not set up to transfer audio that way though. You may need to change preferences in the audio setup. And it's also possible that, depending on the price, your laptop may not be able to send audio over the HDMI cable, only video.
