We just spent about $5000 with Camping World upgrading the satellite dish and TV's in our motorhome to high definition. However, after we picked it up (and paid) we discovered that our new TV's were not broadcasting high definition. After lengthy discussion with DirecTV Tech Support, we found out that the existing coax cables wired throughout the motorhome's roof to the various TVs do not support high definition! In fact, no coax cable can carry high definition. Are there any other options, other than finding a way (and $)to rewire the entire motorhome with HDMI cabling? Plus, we have one receiver, with a separate OEM splitter, which supports 3 TV's.

The OEM RV cabling won't carry HD signal but it WILL carry the satellite signal to sat boxes. That's what I do. I have an HD box for the front tv and an HD sat box by the rear TV. I ran an HDMI cable for the outside tv. I run the sat signal in thru the park cable input in the water bay. I don't use my non HD roof one anymore. I use an AB switch on the cable from the front to the rear to switch between sat and antenna. Hate to tell you you overpaid for what you had done and they CERTAINLY should have made it clear what you were getting.

Wireless HDMI. Should be able to set it up for $200-$300. I know that sucks but a drop in the bucket over what you spent to get a hdmi signal. i would look on Amazon.com.

We have DirecTV Genie and HD DVR on a Traveler SWM-3 mounted on our roof. The HDMI cable goes from the back of the each TV to the back of each receiver. We get HD and SD on channel w/2 separate lines. We switch sometimes during bad storms since HD will pixel out.

Wireless Genie is another way. Wireless HDMI suffers from dropouts.

Coax from the dish to the receiver and HMDI from the receiver to the TV is just fine.

between the hopper and the joey right ?
of course there is the logistics of the cabinet space and the coax being in the right place for everything on the Hopper end to connect

Hopper/Joey can also carry HD on standard RV coax.

With a single Sat receiver and a modulator system you can watch the same program in hi def on all there tv's

But to watch different channel on each TV, you need a system with triple receivers, a Joey system will do it wireless, or std receivers can use the coax to carry the signal from the dish to each receiver

You handed over $5k and didn't know what you were getting? Ugh.......

You will need a SAT Box at each TV to use the co-ax cabling. Hopefully, you have a Sat Dish mounted that is capable of receiving HD, based on your chosen provider. You'll need a multi-lnb dish for DTV, but a dome will work on Dish Network.

To spend that kind of money, not knowing exactly what you are getting just boggles my mind.

First "In fact no coax cable can carry High Definition" is 100% false.. It is a LIE.. In fact I can prove it is a lie.. All I have to do is watch a High-Def channel on CABLE TV to prove it. (you can too).

What is the truth.. Direc (And Dish) are not willing to pay for a HIGH DEF modulator for their HD receivers so thy insist you use HDMI

What are your choices.

1:Run HDMI all over the place.. There are splitters that will let you do that.

2: Obtain an HDMI-Coax modulator and install it. They are kind of pricy but with all you have alrady spent... Not that much more.

The OP is talking about HD distribution of DirecTV throughout the coach, not OTA. One has no relationship to the other in any way.

If you are anywhere near Houston and need satellite help, Dave at Sats2Go www.sats2go.com is the RV satellite "guru". We travel from Florida to Houston to have him work on our TV satellite system. He found a way to get separate satellite signal to the bedroom without rewiring the entire RV.

I pulled HDMI cable to 3 of my 4 TVs. I use a 4x2 matrix switch to flip HDMI inputs among 2 SAT receivers and a PS3.

I think it all cost about $150.

If they spent five grand on a dish and two or three TVS, I hope it was a gold-plated Trav'ler. But then it was done at a CW!!! :B
