Hotspot Overage

We have Verizon hotspot ... and our data allowance continued to go over each month starting about a year or so ago. So, I went to AD-Block on Firefox ... saw no ads, and it went back to somewhat normal use.

Then, my banking updated security and Firefox would not allow my banking page to function properly. So, I went to Chrome - and now I see a ton of ads, and in only two weeks, I'm already over the data limit.

SO, my tech-dumb guess is, the ads eat a lot of data, and show up every page, and continuously burden the data allowance. Is this a correct guess?

IF so, is there a way to load Chrome that stops the ads - I'm now getting a million ads, including here on RV.net and other pages. With Ad Block, I never got the ads unless I asked for something.

I like Chrome well enough, and in fact any of the browsers work for what we need. But I don't want to eat so much data. I can use Firefox for general browsing, as before, and only switch to Chrome for banking if that stops the data use, or do I need to delete Chrome so it never pulls data? If in fact, that's what's happening.
