I use Chrome almost exclusively and I run AdBlock, AdBlock Plus and Ghostery extension. I really "diss". Almost completely blocks ads and tracking. I do have to turn one or more off for some sites that have wired interconnections with things to block content if you block one or more things. You can whitelist sites for these extensions if you go to them a lot.

Regardless of the fact that ADS pay for pages. My data fees pay for DATA coming into my LT ... SO, in fact, I'm paying for the data (per piece?) and what upsets me the most is I'm paying fees for some company to push a product I don't want to see or use.

The ad agencies nowadays have not got the reality that anyone who wants a specific item (washer, truck, solvent, book, rake) can find it easy enough. So, ADS only become MORE annoying when it interferes with my search - and I PAY for the data to annoy me. That's my only issue because it makes me run over my data allowance. IF it did not, then I wouldn't care.

So, after installing Chrome, and Chrome ADBLOCK, I can now browse without ADS, and can still find products that I want to buy with a product search. Then I pay for DATA in that search - doesn't bother me, or my wallet.

... but the internet is not free. You do have to pay your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for the bandwidth you use. Even "free" WiFi providers have to pay an ISP for service.

Your fees to your Internet service provider have zero to do with the content you view. Unlike cable TV where your fees kick back to the content producer as a royalty, the money you pay for internet access only goes the the pocket of your access provider. Right now, ads and tracking data pay the Internet content suppliers.

If you still have problems after installing Adblock, I would do an online chat or call Verizon. They can help by looking at your traffic.

I also have a Verizon wi-fi hotspot on my phone and the only thing that gets me even close to going over are a lot of photo and/or video upload/downloads. If you stream any videos, a wi-fi hotspot is not likely to handle it within your data plan unless it has a large limit.

The last time, they upped my plan from 3GB to 4GB with no change in price and also threw in a promotional update for another MB for a year. This was when I called them when I could not anticipate going over my plan because my phone and their website reported conflicting data usage and neither was correct.

I originally had a 2GB plan that was good for me normally (since I us public wi-fi or my own residence wi-fi for most Internet service). It's only when traveling that I even got close to the 2GB plan. Verizon had updated that play to 3GB for the same price without any input from me.

If you are using any other devices on your hotspot, it may be them contributing to your overage. We also have two tablets and a smart phone with us when we travel and they can do updates and whatever that add up. If you auto upload photos from a phone/tablet to cloud storage, this can also really use up your data if you take a lot of photos.

We have only two laptops on the hotspot, and we don't do a lot of anything on it. NO VIDEOS ... just web-surf and email. That's why I get so concerned about data use, because WE don't use much, but we get all these updates (yes, I have it set to ask me) and data with a buncha ads (Also auto-start on video is shut off too) -- I have no idea why it goes from 4GB one month (less than our plan = 5GB) to nearly 9GB the next month - and we don't do anything different.

When I went to Chrome a week or so ago, it suddenly jumped to the entire 5GB in less than two weeks, AND, in three days used 1.5 GB and kicked us over the limit after only the two weeks.
