how to run 2 tv's on different channels

I have dish, I would like to be able to watch a different program than my husband is watching. we have 2 tv's in MH, both r HD. we have the 722, 211k, and a carry out. I dont want to pay in excess of $2000 for the travler. Can I just take the HD dish off my house and put it on the tripod, would everything work like it does from home? Or, could I just get a tailgater and use it and the carryout and hook one to each tv?
thanks,
Layla
  • If the dish has two transponders I would think you could run separate feeds to two receivers (or one lead to a dual receiver such as my 625???)

  • Yes, your home dish used on a tripod will work exactly as it works at home. If you want HD on 2 TV's you will have to have a receiver at each TV and figure out how to get the wiring from the antenna to each receiver.

I think you are on the right track. Do you use only the 722 to feed both TVs at home? Which means the second TV is not receiving HD?

When I was dragging along a portable dish setup with two ports i would just run a RG CABLE into the trailer with one going to the home entertainment center location and the other going to the bedroom TV location.

I would also bring along two TWO SAT RCVRs for the house..

I would connect the RG cables up to each of the two SAT RCVRs ANTENNA ports and then run RGB cable from the SAT RCVR to the TV VIDEO INPUT connection. This would allow me to use the the TV REMOTE to select the SAT RCVR or the regular CABLE/OTA Antenna HOOKUP.

Worked great for me over the years. However when the NATl BROADCAST system went to digital HDTV mode that turned out to be a much better high def TV signal to watch the local channels on so I stopped dragging along all of the SAT RCVR items after that.

Here on the EAST SIDE of the US we get anywhere from 6-36 Digital lcoal HDTV signals which are transmitted in full high def mode "FULL SCREEN" local TV reception. Much better PICTURE quality than my standard SAT TV reception or analog CABLE TV reception offered by the camp grounds...

You can pick up a two port SAT TV DISH just about anyway. You don't have to pull down the DISH from the house. I would suggest however of having your SAT DISH Account info with you as on several ocassions my SAT RCVR would lose their setups when I disconnected them from the house and turned back on at the camp sites. I had to call the DISK company to get them reactivated and not having your account number with you sort makes that a probelm convincing them who you is... I just taped that INFO on each of the two SAt RCVRs I would bring with me...

I used DIRECT TV at that time and it was never an issue with me relocating my SAT RCVR locations. I would lose the "local town" SAT TV reception when I left the known ZIP CODE area.

  • Get a second dish network dish with three transponders and use the 722 reciever in the split mode. Do not remove the dish from your house.
New and used 3 head dishes are on ebay for from 35-50$.

Use a roof style tripod on the ground, and RG 6U cable and you should be set.

By the way, I use the Trav'ler and am happy I made the investment.
  • The 722 in split mode will not get you HD on the 2nd TV. HD on both TV's requires 2 receivers.
  • If I read your post correctly you said you have a carry out. Assuming you mean the Winegard carryout it has two outputs so you can run 2 rg6 cables to 2 receivers. The carryout is supposed to provide HD for Dish. I have DirecTV and run 2 receivers. Can't address Dish from actual experience.

    Price check . . .

    $1100 = Winegard DISH Travler.

    $900 = Tailgater ($350) + Winegard Carryout ($550).

    $425 = DISH 1000.2 portable = $100 + (good tripod = $125) + (good sat meter = $200).
  • They're NOT "transponders" on your dish. Most LNBs have multiple outputs to feed multiple sat. receivers simultaneously. Just need a cable and a receiver (from home?)
