how well does unlimited data work with streaming video

I just changed plans on T-Mobile (last month) and have been streaming videos via that service. The new 55+ plan gives me UNLIMITED data to the Phone no throttling, save that hot spot is throttled after 10 gigs (Have not tried re-installing fox-fi)

So far no complaints.

Be aware that the throttle point on Verizon when hotspotting is 10GB unless you have Unlimited Plus (oxymoron) where it is 15GB. It is better to run the app native on your phone and mirror it to your TV than to hotspot.

I don't believe anything has changed since your original post other than Verizon has made their "unlimited" plan even more limited.

I'd like to revive this thread that I started a couple of months back to see if there have been any changes. What's the status of Verizon Unlimited? Our cell phones are on Verizon.

My current situation is that I have DirecTV for conventional satellite programming. I want to watch streaming video from Netflix, Amazon, and others, as I currently do at home using a Roku unit that runs off my inhouse WiFi.

Assuming I did get Verizon Unlimited (which might have enough bandwidth, since our RV TV is only 32"), would I connect my Roku to a hotspot on my cellphone? Or is there another gadget that would be separate from my cellphone and serve as a hotspot? Thanks for any suggestions.

We normally stream programming with DishAnywhere from one of our two Hoppers to an Amazon FireTVstick with few issues using our AT&T unlimited 4G/LTE Connected Car plan. We also stream Amazon Prime movies as well. We've even used our unlimited 3G only grey market Verizon Jetpack plan to stream at times with a bit more buffering, but still pretty solid. Streaming programming other than DishAnywhere is still lacking some channels/programs we want though, so we're not ready to "cut the cord" quite yet.

Just a little clarification from the title

Streaming services don't provide your cell data

You pay twice, you pay your cell company for data
You pay your streaming service for their service
Netflix, Amazon. HBO, Hulu, etc..

The exception being bundled services like att with direct TV

Im always suspicious of all these bundling plans, but this one seems good.. it doesn't expire, you save $25/mo, and get free HBO. Also ATT now allows tethering under this new plan, PLUS free streaming... i consider this a nice perk if and when I want it but it's at the bottom of the list of good reasons to do this deal. I know people have complained about ATT coverage, but I travel all over the US for business and have never once had coverage problems. And obviously they all are constantly rebuilding their networks..

One thing I do need to check is if in iPhone land (don't got no droid), I can plug the phone into HDMI and stream to that port. Maybe not.. edit... Nope!

I connect my iPhone to the tv and mirror, whatever will play on the phone, to the tv actually when I plug it in at does it automatically ..important .... you do have to purchase the "real" Apple hdmi dongle (45-50 bucks) as I tried the cheaper knock off and it didn't work. I don't have the direct tv plan but everything I can watch on the phone itself works direct wired to the tv so I can't imagine that wouldn't work.the key for me was using a proper dongle.

Yea, it looks pretty grim. Even the best plan is limited to half-hd, 720p and some plans will be limited to even less.

Cheapest plan limits video to 480p

I have been using the AT&T Mobley for the last few weeks and so far so good, however it is the summer, so I have only been watching a couple of hours of streaming media per day on average.

In case nobody picked this up yet, Verizon just announced that starting today they're applying even stricter rules on throttling for unlimited plans, and of course accounted new unlimited plans and prices.
